Student loan debt - worth it?

How much student loan debt would you get yourself into for a degree from UT Austin, or a school with similar prestige, if you would never consider attending UT?

Depends of the degree.

I forgot I had that from when I joined 10 years ago. Not much has changed from 17 to 27

I never went to college and I kind of regret the experience but I don't think it has hindered me finically.
My grammar and spelling would probably be much better
I think you either have it or you don't when it comes to being successful and making money.

depends on what your degree is worth.
that's really all it is.

Depends on what degree like others have said. One thing, if you take a loan, you should pay it back. I hate people who go to expensive places on loans to get a degree in lesbian knitting and then complain they can't find a job and expect their loans to be forgiven.

BaddAg, Good advice.
Sometimes it's worth, other times it's not. There's also high paying jobs that don't require a degree, but certifications. I can make anywhere from $50k to $140k, depending on the type of work in my field, hours worked, and location/willingness to travel, and it doesn't require a degree.
Stem fields pay the best, but not everyone isn't meant for those fields. It mostly depends on what you're good at, and how you want to spend the next 40+ years.

Those classes in lesbian scissoring can make things real hard on you.

Figure out what you will be happy doing for the next 45 years and determine if the cost is worth it. Assuming it is something that will give you the financial freedom to pay it back.
I would have no problems taking out 100k+ if it was something I really loved. Doing it just for a piece of paper just to say you graduated would be pretty stupid.
If you are responsible and smart with your money, it's really not hard to pay off debt. If you insist on eating out every night, partying all weekend and taking trips you can't afford then it can be hard. Just need to have discipline and know the difference between a need and a want.

Depends on if you will make enought to justify the expense.
If that degree will help you make more money and enough to repay the bills while not going into extra debt thenm sure.
I have a student loan debt from grad school but that degree has allowed me a higher salary than before. I can also afford the payments so I consider it a good investment.
Going to also add that you have to market yourself if you decide to pursue a degree. Show prospective employers how that degree gives you an edge over people who do not have that degree.
I have a Master's in Education Administration. Left education a year after earning that degree. However, I was able to show how that degree gave me skills that translated into other fields and was able to earn a job that makes that degree a worthwhile investment.
Had I not decided to use that degree to market myself and settled for a lesser job it would have been a bad investment.
Just have to remember that this is your debt to payoff and that there are resources available to help paying that debt off if needed (pay as you earn is one).

From shitting on a college degree to asking about going into debt worth it for a college degree

Fiend of mine's wife went to Baylor @ $85,000 per year x 4 = $340,000
She now works at the DMV and makes about $35,000 a year.
Looks like a bad investment
