Guy that worked in the yard at a concrete plant fell into a cement silo. He died from suffocation. Bad thing is that another truck of cement was put in on top of him before he was found the next day.

I only met him twice when I visited that particular plant and at a safety banquet. At the safety banquet, he had received a 20 year safety award. This occurred a month later.

I also had a friend in elem school whose uncle was a yard man at NS Railroad. He was crushed between the couplers of an engine and a rail car. Rumor was that he stayed alive until they uncoupled the cars and his guts came falling out. The story was that he, and they knew that would happen and he smoked one last cigarette beforehand. He was an older man and divorced with no kids. Not sure if he said goodbye to anyone.

Well he died right there on the field, i guess he may have died another way. But his name was Rob Leake from St.Francisville, a very nice young man. I stood over him and weatched him take his last breathe.

Geez, that'll ruin your day.

I guy I know was killed a couple years ago working on a underground genset. He was working on a fuel injector which on these engines runs fuel at several thousand PSI, he did something wrong and got a jet of diesel fuel that hit him in the eye and killed him almost instantly.

Two couples came in from out of town to deer hunt/camp. They were riding/racing two 4 wheelers with the husbands driving and the wives on back.

Evidently they weren't familiar with the back roads and approached a highway at a high rate of speed.

The first couple realized their mistake and slammed on the brakes.

The second couple whizzed past right them into the highway just as an 18 wheeler was coming by.

The truck hit the 4 wheeler with such force that it knocked them and the 4 wheeler back into the couple that had been able to stop.

Killed all four of them.

Guy my grandpa worked with at a refinery was unbolting a 24" endcap that had hot oil in it. He thought the line had nothing in it. The pipe was just above his head so he was on a ladder, as he started unbolting it, it eventually blew off the endcap. There was a railing right behind him so he got pinned by the flow of oil on the railing while the hot oil pretty much boiled him to death. He had it pouring on him for about 3 minutes before they shut the line off.He actually survived it for a few days. His eyes were actually melted. Had to be a brutal few days surviving that.
Happen about 40 years ago
I always said how did he not feel the heat from pipe, but i guess if you have gloves on and a coat and all, you might not feel it. If it's hot enough to burn you to death, you'd think you'd feel that heat.

Wow, what a bad way to go. Fortunately for the guy I know, from I heard his death was pretty much instant. The stream of diesel was a very tight spray coming from several thousand PSI. Went right through his eye and into his brain. Bad part about it is he had a wife and young child.

The friend of a guy I know started feeling bad after eating some shrimp or crabs (can't remember exactly which). The guy was from Pensacola. Anyway he developed a very bad sore throat. Turns out that he someone got the flesh eating bacteria in his throat and his throat and insides were being eaten alive. He was dead in less than 2 weeks.

shark attack stories are easily debunked. Lots of BS in this thread.

Your sister's friend didn't die in Gulf Shores from a shark

Would normally agree, but you should read your link:

Jamie Marie Daigle, 14 June 25, 2005 Bull shark Daigle was killed while swimming with a friend on boogie boards about 200 yards (180 m) off a beach in Walton County, Florida, 8 miles (13 km) east of Destin, Florida. Witnesses estimated the shark was 6–8 feet (1.8–2.4 m) long

A friend of mine and his wife were given a hot air balloon ride for a wedding gift. They came down on a power line and he was killed. The pilot and the wife lived and she was with them for about 45 minutes trying to talk the follow car over to where they were. On the radio and trying to give CPR as the pilot was knocked unconscious...They were married less than a month.

A kid my gf knows recently died in a single car wreck. He volunteered to DD for his buddies at the bar one night. Took everyone home and fell asleep at the wheel a few miles from his house. Hit a tree and died on impact. SO sad

A young couple with 2 small boys... wife finds husband hanging in their shed. turns out he was banging wife's 17 year old sister.

Neither are bizarre, but tragic enough to add

Antifreeze murder

I didn't know them well, but one of my good friends knew these folks pretty well. This mom - church musician - creeps me out. The fact that she got one of her kids to conspire with her to do it is especially creepy.

Ex LSU football player, Chris Beard broke his neck playing Arena ball, he was paralyzed from neck down. After going home his dog jumped up on him pulling his Oxgen out of his nose and he suffocated. And knowing Chris he'd rather went than live like that. He was a good guy.

I remember when that happened.

A college kid my GF mentored was changing the oil in his car when it fell on him and killed him. He had emailed her earlier that day and she didn't see it until later. She was pretty shook up over it. He was going to school out of state and had talked of being lonely and homesick. She wondered if it wasn't an accident.

No it isn't. I knew a guy who was on the way to work one morning in heavy fog. He was in a small pickup truck and T-boned a horse that had escaped from a pasture. Cause of death was determined to be his nasal bone punctured his brain.

The most gruesome accident I know about is a guy who was harvesting corn. He got the combine header choked up and dismounted the machine to pull out the foreign material. Problem was, he didn't take the header out of gear and when he pulled on the weeds or excess stalk or whatever had choked it up, it pulled him into the header. Another guy who worked for him noticed the combine wasn't moving and drove out to see what was up. All that was left was tiny pieces of him after he went thru the combine.

I was in the water in Destin when that happened. We swam back to shore and our friend was out there telling us someone was killed a few miles away. Kind of freaky to think about.

eta- i think the victim was a Louisiana girl if my mind serves me right
