maybe? I didn’t much care for Barry last year. I distinctly remember telling my husband that I didn’t like the sounds that I was hearing with the wind and rain and that was only a cat 1 if I remember right.

Just watching and waiting — more worried about the rice crop as well as the sunflowers that we just planted. We use them as a fundraiser for St. Jude. Hoping that they don’t drown.

A lot of assholes are puckered on this.....especially since a lot of the planting was at least a week late this year due to weather. Considering how crawfish was this year rice at least needs to break even for most folks which is sometimes a struggle.

Dam. That has to be the longest time frame for a flood watch forecast.

No it wasn’t, not for S LA. The majority was planted a week earlier than last year and harvest will start around 10 days earlier than last year
The crop would be better off being later for this storm because not as much would be headed out right now

I don’t think we planted late — my husband said earlier this week that some of it is starting to head out. May be cutting earlier than normal this year.

Here’s to hoping for decent market prices.

Yep. Even 3" of rain and tropical storm force winds at this point could be bad for the rice guys.

Yep I have rice heading out right now last year it wasn’t til probably June 15th. Not an optimal time for wind even 40-50mph gust can give the rice hell right now with it flowering. Not a good situation

Hmmm....I've only talked to 3 farmers but they all said they planted late due to that last rain spell that lasted for almost a week.....and they to a T hoped we didn't get any huge rains for the next little while.

This does make sense though.

ETA

Just so we are clear the weather is never right for farming no matter what the crop is.

3” of rain wouldn’t hurt shite right now as long as it’s only comes within a day or so and doesn’t rain for 3+ days straight
As long as no flood and less than 40 mph of sustained wind it’ll be fine

For Barry we had 70+ mph gust and 4 straight days of off and on rain and some fields were fine and it hurt some but a lot more rice was headed out for Barry than will be for this
