I made this little schematic last year during Laura to illustrate who's better off and who's worse off when a landfalling hurricane develops a secondary eyewall.
A few end up better off, but many more are significantly worse off as the storm's energy is redistributed outwards. LINK

How do y'all make anything out on that cam. It's choppy as hell for me. I see water and a camp in the background but everything else is basically just pixels.
Well, you see that water? None of that should be there.

Wow. Whatever building he’s in at least seems secure
His place was built well beyond the typical building codes. he rides out all the storms, he was there last year with Zeta

You think the levee is going to breach? I'm 1 block away from the levee.
Of course not. Not even an issue to think about. Your biggest problem in Metairie is power outages.

Clearly this is the first time you’ve watched Bayou time. Prepare for some comedic humor with some impressive film.

This is what I've been talking about the last several days about a wound up max strength hurricane making landfall vs a weakened unwound hurricane.

Hard to not be mesmerized yet also horrified at #Ida as it approaches landfall in coastal Louisiana just west of Grand Isle.
This 8 hour WV loop shows how the eye gradually clearing out, though w/ some eyewall debris getting in from time to time. Beautiful yet catastrophic

Fox has a guy down at Pointe Aux Chene right now broadcasting live. Wow. His mic just got blown out.
That’s a terrible place to be for this storm.

Gonzales checking in. This will be the first hurricane I ride out since Gustav in Pierre Part.
Looking like we may get what’s left of the eye here too. Never experienced that before.
