She's not cat 5 yet. She has 6 hours to get 7mph to hit cat5.

If anyone has MyRadar app…It’s showing John Humphress is videoing live on Grand Isle.

I hope it’s just a cam set up and he’s not there. I don’t know if there is going to be anything left.

Looks like she might be a cat 5 now.

Yeah CNN meteorologist said we are a mere 7mph from being a Cat5 and that she expects it will reach that in the next few hours

Obviously whether strong4 or low end 5 is practically irrelevant as this one is a big boy either way

At this point the wind is the wind. 155 isn’t going to be a hell of a lot of difference than 145.

That’s wrong. 155 mph isn’t just 7% worse than 145 mph. The force wind puts on an object is calculated using the speed of wind squared. So 145 ^2 = 21,000 while 155 ^2 = 24,000. That’s about 15% worse. That’s more than twice what the increase in wind speed was.

I would leave first and worry about finding a hotel later. Stop in Lake Charles and try to find one in Houston on your phone. There’s not enough time to waste doing that now.

No one is going to measure 155 or even 145 mph sustained winds. That’s what I mean by the wind is the wind. It’s going to be strong as shite no matter if it’s 145 or 160.

frick. Someone just posted it’s a cat 5 now. I thought the track shifted enough east to where the eh won’t come over BR? I should have fricking left town.

Honestly, there is still time for you to go if you leave soon. (assuming you are in BR)

Well I’m not sure what to say. I was posting what TWC was saying just 6 hours ago that it was a cat 2 and they didn’t mention the rapid intensification though the signs were in place. Really hate waking up and seeing where she is now. Holy smokes.

I checked this thread around 2am this morning in Destrahan. We just got to Orange Beach a few minutes ago.

Thank you all for helping me make the decision to keep my family safe.

I can't find the predictive wind model that someone posted last night late, I thought it was on Page 508

Showed 5 different cities and the sustained wind speed probabilities by time.
Can someone repost or tell the page number it's on?

Those wind readings are from the plane. The surface wind is lower. If it reads 145 at 5000 feet the surface winds are closer to 110 still bad and can cause a whole host of damage.

Like said many times. Everyone stay safe

I’m sorry my post offended you(out of all the political posts made in the last 72 hours) but 2020 taught me on thing... people trust the government way too much. I am adding perspective to those trying to decide to leave or not due “not being told.”
