We are so lucky that we have been blessed with the intelligence and intuition that we all have (we are all here proactively seeking information) BUT we must acknowledge that there are people that don't have that common sense and look to our leaders for direction.
Our leaders over the past 72 hours have failed them and we cannot let them all backpedal their way out of this later with a finger point blame game. No one would ever get mad at a politician for being too cautious with storm preparation.
You would think, but plenty of people were upset with mandatory evacs in Hilton Head and Beaufort for Dorian in SC a couple years back. Dammed if you do and it turns out to be nothing. Dammed if you dont and storms get stronger.

I have been waken up in the middle of the night about 3 times over the past 10 years for crazy sounding emergence mobile Amber Alert "text messages".
Can any locals in Louisiana say if there have been any of those types of texts in the past 12 hours?
If not and you are just waking up, would you have been upset if you had received one two hours ago notifying you that the storm is now a category 4?

So let's meet in the middle. Would it have been an acceptable message to the public that the contra-flow on Saturday would be open and emergency services were available for the disabled and elderly starting on Friday?

Whenever all the dust has settled from this storm, I really hope people hold these politicians accountable for how they handled this situation. It’s really pissed me off, because ever since Katrina, every parish president and mayor talks about being prepared, and having new plans in place to protect people, yet I feel like we’re in the same spot as 2005. This is especially true in NOLA. You would think them of all people would do everything possible to not allow a repeat of 2005, yet it’s starting to unfold, and could potentially be more devastating because of how this storm is coming in. Everyone took Gustav seriously, I’m sure a lot of that had to do with PTSD from Katrina, which was only 3 years since Katrina at the time, but shite, they should still be taking it just as serious as they were back then.
