know this is OT but Ive got to get to the bottom of this.

Is it possible that they dont work because you're trying to evaporate water into humid air and it doesnt evaporate much, leaving you with just slightly muggier air?

That’s exactly it. They have no purpose in humid areas. Probably work great in Phoenix.

The pressure is well under 950

They’re all trying to wash their hands off right now. They now know that a lot of them have made a huge mistake by not issuing a mandatory evacuation, or trying to urge more people to leave

We are so lucky that we have been blessed with the intelligence and intuition that we all have (we are all here proactively seeking information) BUT we must acknowledge that there are people that don't have that common sense and look to our leaders for direction.

Our leaders over the past 72 hours have failed them and we cannot let them all backpedal their way out of this later with a finger point blame game. No one would ever get mad at a politician for being too cautious with storm preparation.

I’m not sure how it’s supposed to evaporate anyway , it’s run inside the house

The design tells you to fill the compartment with ice water and then the fan blows air through the ice water to make the air cold.

But it doesn’t do that because that’s just not how a/c works

Mystery solved.

It would work if you had 90 degree air with a dew point about 20. Its less effective when its 90/78. Thats why you need an HVAC in a decently humid climate.

My BIL in Grand Junction has one as his AC unit. Itll freeze your arse off overnight.

Woke up at 3 to check the storm, my plan was if it’s a 4 leave 3 stay.

Currently westbound out of thibs headed to the lake Charles area for the night.

Really? All the ones I’ve ever seen were made for outdoors.

I’m pretty sure that everyone who stayed in Creole survived Laura. I thought that was a death sentence, especially with the storm surge, but they ended up lucking out and the storm surge missed them to the East. At the angle Ida is coming in at, I don’t think Grand Isle will miss any storm surge. I just can’t believe anyone would want to stay in Grand Isle for this thing.

I assume that GI police aren’t there and they got out, so those people are all on their own whenever something bad happens. I know Plaquemines Parish is going to still have their entire force out, in all 3 areas of the parish, including lower Plaquemines and the eastbank of the parish.

Alright, talked with my parents...they aren't rolling and talked with my wife who has and we are on the same page. My entire street is still here and we are going to take care of each other....the latest and the WAFB explanation has me content that it will be what I originally expected to ride out.

Hopefully I am right, I'm on Oakline in Jefferson Highlands if anyone is around and needs help in the aftermath.

The wind models really got me spooked but I've come back down to earth hopefully it's the right choice. I'll be hanging around to talk with you guys but first...sleep.

It’s advertised as an inside alternative to a fan or window unit. Nobody would try to cool the air outside. It’s supposed to be able to cool a room

Things like this require work, long planning meetings, and they don’t benefit politicians except for when the federal money comes in. When the money shows up watch how loud and visible they are.

Anyone relying on those imbeciles to plan for them is in trouble.

Staying usually comes with regrets once the Winds start howling and the tress start falling.
