I mean the fact it isn’t a 4 now doesn’t mean shite

Remember how many times you’ve woken up after sleeping for 8 hours or so and the storm situation has completely changed?

I find it hard to believe that’s only a 85mph storm.

My assumption is the high winds are still flight level and by 11 or noon it will be at 100mph or more

NHC going with 130mph at landfall.

Yes
Latest discussion has it at 115 at 10:00 PM CDT
130 at 10:00 AM tomorrow and at landfall.
No longer indicating 140.
That’s a little bit of good news.

Saying hurricane hunters found 75 mph winds on NE quadrant in this 10am update. Weather channel people seem perplexed or maybe it’s just disappointment.

If anyone is interested in Storm Chasers, I think Reed Timmer and Jeff Piotroski are in Houma. Not sure about the Delta Chaser with the Gizmo puppet but I would be interested in following him.

I threw that in there just for y’all

It’s going to be a significant storm honestly. But the trend thus far is promising for it not to be catastrophic but that can change quickly

Nope. Not the warmest waters yet at all.

The coastal communities are going to get walloped hard if a Cat 4 or even a high end 3 hold together.

Don't worry about the coast, it seems people here are only worried about BR and Lafayette

If I remember correctly that happened right when it hit the loop current. It has been in the loop current for the last 12 hrs.

Well that's not true. That red dot is about where it is.

Again, we went through Katrina and I know of zero homes that were badly damaged that way. In my neighborhood, of over a hundred homes, I don’t think there was a broken window from flying objects. There was some roof damage, but even that was just missing shingles. And this was Brockenbraugh Ct in Old Metairie, with tons of big trees.

Hate to break it to you, but the max sustained winds at Lakefront airport during Hurricane Katrina was only 69 mph. Far short of the 110 mph winds that the poster was asking about, and what is a possibility for parts of the state Sunday night.

110 mph sustained winds is absolutely serious for residential structures, especially in a developed area. Evacuations should be seriously considered for any area that might experience that.

Looking at that map makes sense why it blew back up quickly after Cuba then leveled out.
