I’m really surprised this storm doesn’t have higher sustained winds. Has good circulation and an eye now. Thought it’d be a cat 2 by now. Still plenty of time for it to strengthen though.

When I went to bed last night, Ida had just crossed Cuba and I could’ve sworn they were saying it would ramp up almost immediately. Here we are 12 hours later and it is still right at 85mph.

Am I missing something??

The NHC is extremely careful in raising or lowering wind speeds until they are about as confident as they can be. You might see it lowered by the next one IF models continue to show lesser impacts.
