If I had to guess based on that IR loop that’s roughly a 100mph storm currently. Next update will be interesting
They’re not sampling those winds though.

NHC staying strong with a cat 4 prediction by 8am Sunday.

I’m really surprised this storm doesn’t have higher sustained winds. Has good circulation and an eye now. Thought it’d be a cat 2 by now. Still plenty of time for it to strengthen though.

They’re calling this thing major in 12 hours with it being at 85 mph right now? Yikes

I don't think the track shifted at all. Maybe by a mile or two

When I went to bed last night, Ida had just crossed Cuba and I could’ve sworn they were saying it would ramp up almost immediately. Here we are 12 hours later and it is still right at 85mph.
Am I missing something??

Track shift east maybe 5 miles. Really no change
Posted on 8/28/21 at 9:58 am to slackster
NHC going with 130mph at landfall.

The NHC is extremely careful in raising or lowering wind speeds until they are about as confident as they can be. You might see it lowered by the next one IF models continue to show lesser impacts.
