What's the timing of this thing? Will it affect Destin? Going with the family there over Labor day weekend. Don't know whether to cancel or not. TIA.

So it's going from a tropical wave to a tropical storm in the next 16 hours while its main convection center is moving over Puerto Rico?

Okay, good to know. Thanks!

meanwhile there's all these dickheads in the thread asking what they should do about travel to the LSU game or their planned vacations. clearly, you can see that there's a disconnect here.

Exactly what would you like them to do? Not ask questions? Its not like they are saying frick the flood victims my vacation is more important.

Either way, we are talking about computer models that are rarely, if ever, accurate this far out. People are trying to plan, whether its for a vacation or storm prep, I see no issue with that.

Of course there is a disconnect. If it wasn't for internet/media I wouldn't know that there was a flood in BR down here in Houma. It isn't real to a lot of people because they aren't in contact with it or are truly affected by it. It is the same disconnect we have with the wildfires in California. Many here do not give it a second thought. It is just how it is.

the king of all weather models has a strengthening major hurricane bearing down on the state's major population center that happens to be below sea level as well as a huge portion of the state that is recovering from floods that were generally thought to be impossible.

Just shut up about it already. No one in this fricking area would put their travel plans over the safety of the state. People can still worry about their travel plans though. You don't get to decide that they can't.

I see what you did there. Reverse psychology.

Can anyone explain to me why the Euro model is so much better than the GFS when the Europeans don't really ever have to worry about these storms?
