I just saw this article and didn't see a thread on it.

LINK

quote:

The owners of a United Plaza office building off Essen Lane are the first business to ask to leave the newly created city of St. George in a request to be annexed into the city of Baton Rouge.

Four United Plaza, a 75,000-square-foot office building at 8555 United Plaza Blvd., filed the annexation request Monday and will be the “first of many annexations," said real estate attorney Charles Landry.

quote:

Landry said he is working with five other groups seeking to be annexed into Baton Rouge, including individuals that own properties, companies that own their properties and residential neighborhoods.

Looks like a lot of these businesses and real estate holdings will begin annexing ASAP.

Funny how the city never got around to annexing some or all of those office complexes right there.

Got a goddamn Fortune 500 company HQ in a guy’s backyard over there.

So you think the city can just annex any and all property without the property owners asking to be annexed?

That’s because there was never a need to, and at the same time for many businesses, they never saw the necessity in being incorporated.

The owners of the United plaza building are aware they were never in the city of Baton Rouge, correct?

And this isn't the city poaching businesses, it's businesses asking BR to take them because they don't want the risks associated with an upstart town like St. George.

I figured some of this might happen. There are a bunch of large offices in United Plaza though. Is this just a few of them?

Let's be clear on this. The City of Baton Rouge actively approached the Mall of Louisiana, The hospitals, and L'Auberge Casino to get them to annex into the city.

You know Kip was soliciting annexations from businesses in the proposed St George in 2015 right?

Don’t act like soliciting annexations hasn’t happened in this area.

You're even dumber than I thought. This is EXACTLY the city poaching businesses to annex. Just like they did during the first petition effort.

Let me be clear: That's irrelevant to what I posted above and is especially irrelevant to the United Companies building owners wanting to be annexed.

If a majority of property owners don't want to be annexed by signing a petition, they won't be annexed.

So what? If those businesses didn't want to be annexed, they would not have been annexed.

Why are you so butthurt that some businesses are managing their financial risk by not wanting to be included in a huge unknown such as St. George?

I thought all of you were all-in for freedom and shite.

What laws were broken?

If you think laws were broken, go to the DA's office and file a complaint. The DA represents the entire parish, not just the city.

Your posts are examples of why I quit posting in any SG threads for over two years. The ignorance in these threads is suffocating.

I know that you were opposed to St George which is an opinion that you are certainly entitled to. Just curious for those that opposed it, what do you think the future of EBRP looks like in 20 years if it all falls through? Central and Zachary are the only areas that are growing.

Would we become Jackson, Mississippi or maybe some place like Birmingham that's doing mostly ok but where most of the middle class have left for the suburbs?

I think what's kept BR somewhat better than places like Jackson or Montgomery is that we still have a decent middle and upper middle class in SBR. I think it's dwindling though and St George might help stop the bleeding.
