It’s good to see some common sense by the NAACP. They believe their needs aren’t being addressed. They see SG’s grassroots move and they want to do the same.

But the NAACP pays St. George organizers and supporters a complement.

St.G organizer need to cultivate this relationship.

Having NAACP on their side would make even Janice think twice about fricking around.

Note Broome didn’t blow off the NAACP. She says there might be some merit to their idea.

. Some say that would be a step backward, But others, including Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, say it’s an option that may be worth exploring after the dust settles around St. George's possible incorporation.

Broome made it clear, though that she's not prepared to fully explore the idea of deconsolidation just yet. She said she’s more focused on exploring the legal options the city-parish has in trying to block St. George from happening.

Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face. Keep fighting St. George, lose productive taxpayers who get fed up with your shite who go ahead and move, have less money in the coffers. Makes William J. Le Petomane look like a competent administrator.

What I find hilarious:

I live in SBR and majority are Trump voters, but I have neighbors crying racism and wanting to be annexed into BR. Have fun with that you fake arse flakes.

These are the same MAGA folks from 2016.

Nothing's changed, but people are getting learned.....from the SG page:

The opposition to the City of St. George campaigned on "NO NEW TAXES." It should be obvious post-election their campaign slogan was a canard.

For those subdivisions considering annexing into the City of Baton Rouge, their taxes will immediately increase. Let's assume the EBR Tax Assessor appraised your home at $250,000.

1. Property Tax Increases:
a. City of Baton Rouge = 12.9 mils
b. CATS Tax = 10.6 mils
c. Total = 23.5 mils
d. Note: No homeowner exemption allowed for city taxes
e. Annual Increase = 25,000 x 0.0235 = $588 per year

2. Gross Receipts Taxes (see page 40 of C-P Op Budget, 5% on Utilities)
a. Electricity & Gas = $200 per month (assumed)
b. Water = $35 per month (assumed)
c. Total = $235 per month
d. Monthly increase = $235 x 0.05 = $11.75
e. Yearly increase = $11.75 x 12 = $141

3. Total Yearly Increase = $588 + $141 = $729

Depending on the EBR Tax Assessor's appraisal of your property, and the average monthly utilities costs -- your taxes will be higher or lower than $729 per year. But in all cases, your taxes will increase immediately.

Has there been any response to this from Cormier, One BTR, Better Together? I bet it’s awfully silent when this comes up.

FWIW, I don't think the CATS tax automatically applies to homes getting annexed in. CATS is not part of the city or city-parish. It is a political sub-division of the state. A taxing district was created that isn't married to the city boundaries, so I think technically it would stay the same.

Even still, it makes sense to prefer to be in an unincorporated area. If Im on the boundary and got left out of SG I would want to keep it that way. The school district isn't going to happen, but even if it did it will go beyond the borders of SG.

Because it's currently part of the EBR system and will require a majority vote in EBR.

It'll take at least 10 years of political maneuvering, and the boundaries won't look like the city's.
