I don't think it will be an overnight thing but property values will for sure rise, especially once they get their own school system.
How many years before St. George can get the state to approve their own school district. Then after that how many years until St. George can raise the money to build another high school. And then how many years until people in the area see the high school as good enough for them to pick it over private school?
I completely agree with the premise that a good public school system will equal higher property value. Just wondering how long it will take to get to that point.

1.) The majority of the people within the proposed area voted against that, so it’s rather interesting that this becomes an argument.
Interesting, but a fact not an argument.

2.) I have yet to hear the leaders of SG directly reference this when discussing infrastructure improvements.
They should, SG will pay their share.

Well, it took Central all of 2 years to get their school system so I would say that's a start.
Since I'm sure some will be skeptical/not want to move their kid immediately due to age of the student so I would think that gives you 3-4 years before the need for a new high school. If the district can't build a new one in that time frame, the city has much larger issues.
My guess, school system in 2; open a new high school in 6.

Good question, I’d say look at Zachary and Central to get a rough idea. Less than a decade.

I agree with all of this. Some believe that once this vote happens then they will have their own school system and everything will be rainbows and unicorns but that simply isn’t true.
Still needs a statewide vote for a constitutional amendment and even once that passes it will still be years before all of the legal challenges are worked out and then they have to form a new school system from basically nothing. There are MANY hurdles to get over before they will have a functioning school system of their own.

The way I look at is, schools are the long term goal.
Short term goal is taking back the taxes this area is paying and actually using them to pay for maintenance and improvements to the area rather than pay for catered lunches for SWB and Chauna Banks.

and the problem will be unlike Zachary and Central, they are moving the goal posts because of the money involved. It is going to be a shitshow for sure but one that will be ultimately worth it if it passes. It is all a necessary evil to get out away from the current situation.

And if it fails, the options are either another push depending on how it failed (thank SWB for it getting this far this time around) or people start picking up stakes and moving out of parish, either to Ascension / Livingston or out of state completely.
The state of BR with it being a high tax low-quality service hellhole can’t hold forever.

Just saying, you will still pay for these. She will still be parish president over St. George...at least for a year (hopefully)

Statewide vote will be easy to pass. The parish vote will be the tough nut to crack.
And there will be plenty to start with. Solid tax base, and several existing school buildings.
It will take time to get it all together, but it’s not as if there is nothing to start with.

I agree. My kids are in private school bc I couldn’t wait while St. George got their school system going.
It’s going to be shitshow for sure (meaning it’s going to get ugly between the city of Baton Rouge and St. George). Lawsuits everywhere for sure.

Part of me wonder if they will ever get the school district. There might be too much resentment in the parish for it to pass.
That said, the people were told that you have to incorporate to even consider creating a school district, so here we are.

I don’t thunk there will be another push. It’s now or never. If it fails this time you’ll just see a mass exodus.

Taking millions out of the EBR kitty means they will have to be scrambling to minimize cuts elsewhere.
You think groups in NBR expecting their handouts are going to like hearing that they don’t get as much while she gets Ruth’s Chris on the parish dime?

and look at the money being spent on the lie campaign. Mailers and billboards telling outright lies about things the average person is not really paying attention to and could believe. It is really bad what is being spread and it all starts at the mayor's office. But again, thanks for the fact that she will be the reason it will pass. So there is always that.

The parish doesn’t control whether St George gets a school system, the state legislature does, then a statewide vote on a constitutional amendment will.
Doesn’t mean the CBC won’t try to torpedo it strictly to prop up their friends in the EBRPSS though.

People's attention spans last all of 2 seconds plus, depending when the election is, has a high probability of low voter turnout parishwide (assuming election will be in 2 years there won't be a governor or presidential election to get a higher turnout. Zachary and Cental would have no reason to vote against it and NBR won't vote.

Lol no you won't. Just like I won't leave if it doesn't pass. Like all the celebrities saying they would leave the country if Trump got elected and surprise surprise they are still here. Despite their feelings to him, they sure do enjoy all the benefits of the current economy. You won't be any different.

I believe that it has to pass all three levels. State legislature, statewide, and parish-wide.

Pass legislature first, then get a majority vote in the district, the parish and the state.
