Be careful. There is a momma snake close by.

There are few things that legitimately scare me. Spiders have never bothered me, I have no fear of heights. I've had some terrifying encounters with poisonous snakes over the years both in childhood and as an adult. Been chased on land and in the water by water mocassins. Almost sat on a coiled rattler in the woods. Had copperheads pour out of a woodpile I was moving. Any snake I see, harmless or otherwise, gets shoveled into as many pieces as possible.

It's not poisonous, as far as I can tell from the picture.
You just ridded yourself of something that kills pests.

I think no less of you
frick snakes
I picked up a bag of mulch one time cause the wife likes to garden and something starting moving around my finger tips, a fricking copperhead inside the mulch bag
I dropped it before it could lunge/bite, didnt scream but made those noises you make when you cant tell if someone is scared shiteless or a little cold and ran inside.

Scared of a little Dekay's Brown Snake. Full grown, they're like 10" long

A long time ago I was caddying at a golf tournament at the Country Club of La. There was an older black caddie in our group that stepped over a pretty big snake. Homie jumped about that high with a heavy arse bag on and damn near fell over running to get a way from it.

Grew up in the swamps and river and hate the things. One thing I learned is NEVER kill a king snake. They are not the enemy they are an ally.
My father in law was bit by a huge rattler at deer camp. Took him to hospital brought him back to camp and told him to say there and rest. Went back to check on him and he had got up , went back found the rattler again and killed him!

Why kill the snake? They eat rats and poisonous snakes.

After the flood I was picking up sandbags off of my back porch and uncovered a snake. Almost took the backdoor off of the hinges trying to get through it.

Pretty sure that day cut 10 years from my life.. Conversation that occurred when I ran inside..
Your wife's gets a gold star for "Style Points". If that truly is how the conversation went down you've got a keeper for sure. She's going to keep you grounded in reality.

Your grass looks dead...
I own a lawn care business and I concur with your conclusion. It is also dry, definitely not to wet to cut.

why didn't you leave your foot in the pic so we'd have some scale?

A little early for them to be out ...... usually by the 15th or 20th you start running into or over them

To hell with all species of snakes.
