I remember hearing some black people calling other blacks "red".

Yeah, Malcolm X was called "Red".

His father was DARK, and he was a Garveyite. He had dark children, and Malcolm was "red" because he was the son of a white man who raped his mother.

Malcolm's mother couldn't really stand the sight of him because he reminded her of his rapist, but his stepfather favored him because Malcolm was part white, and his father was ingrained to think white was better.

Crazy stuff.

It means Redbone. Morgan Freeman's character in Shawshank was called Red. It's another moniker for light skinned black folks.

Race baiters? It's just commentary on the divide within the black community between light and dark skinned people.

It's always been a thing in black culture.

It's more common than you think.

In Pass Christian and Delisle, lots of the "black" people are very light skinned like Curry. Darker black people would call them "yellas" and they would fight over it.
-------------------------------------------------------------

"High yellow" is offensive. "Bright" is the preferred nomenclature.

there haven't even been that many "light skinned black" superstars and to claim this is giving him some advantage is a literal display of ignorance to the history of popularity of the NBA

I mean, Tiger and Jeter, but it's not like they were bigger than Jordan or something. The black community needs to deal with this insecurity themselves, and not pin it on white people.

i was playing ball at the Rec this year and was on a court with all blacks. one guy asks to clarify what our team is and i was like, "me, you, those two, and that lightskin."

if i knew how bad this poor bastard would've gotten reamed, i wouldn't have said it. they were hooping and hollering at him because a white guy called him a lightskin. he was a good sport, but it was endless.

he gets backed down in the paint. "get big, lightskin"

he gets blocked on a 3. "nuh uh, u too lightskin for that."

We all get that. Everyone knows that. This guy is just trolling.

For all this talk Lebron James makes more in endorsement $ than the top 2 soccer superstars (we just had a thread where we argued about marketability) and he's very dark and doesn't have the great Madison Ave. backstory. The author is an a-hole looking to sow even more division within our country.

First and last Undefeated "piece" I'll read. I hope it bombs horribly (and it will).

Good call to not have a comments section too.

I have always found it kinda hilarious (and sad) that some black people actually act "racist" towards their own race when it comes to the shade of their "blackness"

You know who hates black people the most?

Other black people.

I've never understood it either. Then again, looking the continent of Africa itself with all the civil war going on, I guess it's not too farfetched.

It also takes on an economic aspect.

My father is dark, but not black. My mother is white. My parents didn't grow up with money but then became wealthy. We lived on one of the nicest streets surrounded by other white, wealthy families.

The other kids didn't really play with us, called us halfbreeds, would fight us, make fun of us, etc.

I used to think it was because they were "racist", but it didn't take me long to realize that it was because we were "new" money.

If he makes them uneasy, then what about his teammate Klay Thompson (Caucasian/Afro-Bahamian). He must really be an issue for the racists out there.

Of all the contrived race baiting shite, this has to take the fricking cake.

I'm darker than the author of that article and have spent not one second fixating on Curry's skin tone. Curry is awesome because he's a great player. Period.

Hell, a few ofy siblings are Steph's skin tone, and my parents are both darker skinned. frick anyone of any race who makes this an "issue."

Jesus Christ.
