We don’t because most of our college educated move to Texas
What is even more sad is that taxpayers pay for a lot of their education only for them to leave right afterwards. It's a major flaw with TOPS
Thank you Louisiana tax payers for this, btw. I will forever be grateful for you guys paying me to go to school. I should send you all postcards from Austin.

This is kind of weird. I would never consider moving to a city for a job and then go look at the state’s cost of living. I’d go look at the city’ Cost of living. It doesn’t make sense to rank states that way. For example, in Texas Dallas and Austin have a cost of living far higher than in Baton Rouge or New Orleans. But LA reports a higher state cost of living than TX

Cost of living here isn't really much higher than LA. When you factor in higher wages for most professions here, decent public school systems so no need to shell out tuition for your kids, lower state taxes, much lower insurance (home and auto)....your overall costs are likely the same or even low
Yeah, but it gets 120 degrees in the summer

But you have to look at what you get for your money. If you are taxed the same you should have about the same level of infrastructure per capita of population and GDP.
Louisiana has had money in the past, but instead of investing in infrastructure to attract more diverse sectors, it threw money into retarded programs that are more aimed at getting votes than growing the economy. Then, when the oil prices went bust the governor suddenly made getting jobs into Louisiana his focus. Who in the ever-loving frick would move their billion dollar corporate HQ to the state that traditionally is corrupt at worst and at best can't provide almost basic needs for its population?

It's stupid to compare Louisiana to the 2nd most populous state in the country. A more fair comparison would be South Carolina or Alabama which are similar in size.

Most of the best universities in the country are in the northeast. Which attracts better companies, which offer higher paying jobs, which brings a demand for housing, so cost of living is much higher.

That’s a 2012 publication.
Since then, Alabama has attracted new business there. They have a brewery and tourism scene. Their beaches and coastal scene has been upgraded. They’re doing better than us at the moment.

This is very true. Birmingham was a shithole for a long time, but their downtown is actually becoming kinda nice. Huntsville is gorgeous, and the gulf coast has always been beautiful.

Birmingham is meh. It's a very dangerous city with some nice suburbs and Detroit level demographics

I wonder what the difference is for home owner's insurance as well. I know ours is outrageous in south LA.

Quite a spin. Plenty of states use the SAT instead. It's not just because Louisiana is making the special ed kids take it.

Real estate is inexplicably pretty high
Property around Shreveport/Bossier is fricking astronomical, you cab buy land cheaper in parts of California and Florida. In north Bossier what were cotton fields 15 years ago they are asking 30-40K an acre. Some 1-2 acres lots are 100-150K

Alabama is pretty bad. If they're trying to talk shite about Louisiana for anything other than football I'd have to say, glass houses.
