States ranked lower than Louisiana in cost of living

Notables from the list include; Michigan, Tennessee, Texas, Idaho, Georgia, and North Carolina
Seems that Louisiana employers get by and use this “low cost of living” mantra as an excuse to pay employees little to nothing, when the cost of living in Louisiana isn’t really all THAT low. I know for a fact that Texas pays its employees better than Louisiana, so I’m not sure why we allow employers to perpetuate this myth that it’s SO CHEAP to live in Louisiana. We rank among the bottom in median household income.

Hilariously, Texas and Tennessee do not have state income taxes and have a lower cost of living than Louisiana.

Louisiana is actually pretty expensive to live in. Real estate is inexplicably pretty high, and you have the corruption which leads to high taxes. Louisiana is truly a dump. But it's our dump.

Louisiana is a shithole = water is wet

Ever since Louisiana elected that black mayor, y'all been going to shite.

Especially in the Nola area.

No way Texas is lower, I've lived in both.
Fake News
If you own a $250,000 home in Texas you are paying $10,000 a yr in property taxes.

Why are you so butthurt about pointing out a statistical observation?
Are you one of those people who bury their heads in the sand and ignore Louisiana’s issues, and continue swearing there’s no place better on earth?
At the very least, me pointing this out shows that you should probably be getting paid more at Burger King.

You can't really use a state wide cost of living number when it's neighborhood specific

And most of these list don't factor the 5k/year you have to spend in most areas just to get 1 child a good education.
"Come work for us! We will pay you 80% of what Texas will! In exchange you will pay more taxes, have shittier schools and infrastructure, and have to live at least 30 minutes away from our office in the city, or else risk your car getting broken into twice a year!"
Who wouldn't take an offer with selling points like those.

Yeah but to me that's almost expected because NOLA is a bigger city. What blows me away is how high real estate is in the Lafayette and Lake Charles type areas. Not that it's like Manhattan or anything but compared to other small cities in the deep south you're paying a premium.

$250K will still buy a mansion in 90% of St. Louis suburbs.
This isn’t true at all.

Per your own list Louisiana is still a pretty cheap place to live

I own a $140,000 home (2,000 sq ft) here in Illinois (rural town of 4,500 pop) and my property taxes are $8,000.
Fk this state haha.

We’re 19/50
And median household income is about 44/50.
Still pretty cheap, but Louisiana employees are paid much lower than COL would indicate.

This is very correct. I'm witnessing this happen in front of my eyes daily and when I've pointed this out, I was hushed ASAP.

Yes but their property taxes are much, much higher. However, you do get something in return for that money, like great schools, unlike LA where you then have to shovel extra money for private school.
I've been studying this for several years now. I could go on and on but I'll spare everyone the novel.

Lake Charles kinda makes sense because of all the construction. Workers looking to rent for a year or two can cause a temporary boost in prices, but that bubble will burst once the plants are done.
Lafayette, I have no clue. That place is a shithole and everyone from there is an illiterate piece of trash.
