yep. A high tier 2.

Even from Atlanta, I can be in so many beautiful places in no time. N. Ga mtns (from east to west border), Lookout Mt (GA+TN) rivers and creeks obviously. Then borrowing from borders (I know, I'm not playing the game right, but still an important factor to me): Highlands (6miles from GA)/Cashiers NC, Little River Canyon (10 miles from GA).

For salt water, GA's sea islands are super nice. And if you want the real white sand and emerald water (although Cumberland is awesome), 5 hours to Grayton Beach from Atlanta (from GA border to Cape San Blas is 1.5 hours).

Oh and Lake Lanier (not really into it, but it's there, as are other big fake lakes).

I would have to put Alabama in tier 1. If there's an outdoor activity you want sans snow sports, you have multiple outlets. Great mountain biking, kayaking, climbing, hiking, hunting, fishing. That's what makes Alabama bearable and underrated as a state.

First off, I asked why wasn't Minn was on the list? But also did so for Tenn, SC, NC. and left off GA and Va. and more west coast states.

I promise you the available outdoor activities is greater in more states than Michigan including scenery. I mean, the western states alone beat Mich. The Smokies too.

However, we're not talking scenery here. It's outdoor activities.

Argument like the OP ought to have some criteria otherwise it's a pissing match.

I'm from La. and I have yet to say one word about my state. So, I prefer to argue for states not mentioned and offered reasons why they are better.

In return I get scenic pictures. Big fricking deal. That is a pissing match Mich will lose to about a two dozen or more states.

You've never been to the WA or OR coast and you've never been to
Central or Eastern WA or OR either where there are closer to 300 days of sunshine and temperatures in the 100s in the summer. The only thing you said that is accurate is the cold ocean, though the pacific isn't much warmer in San Diego.

This whole thread's definition of "hiking" is laughable. Grew up in WA, live in TX...it's not even close in terms of quality outdoor activities.

I get what you're saying about West Virginia but no one can knock the outdoor life there. It has the best skiing, mountain biking and rafting in the south east/mid atlantic bar none.

Michigan has better fishing, hunting, boating, and winter sports. It wins.

Yes (I've been all over Texas) and it really only reminded me of 1, maybe 2 of those pics. A lot of the really awesome outdoors hiking trails in Texas are just so-so out west.
