re: State would like to see fewer BR area motorists on the road during I-10 widening project

I'd do park and ride but it would have to be a light rail, no buses. Granted to possibility of BR having a light rail is 0%.
The only buses around worth riding are the LSU buses.

The bulk of the commuters from Livingston are going towards downtown, LSU, or Exxon.
There should be another route that can move traffic to and from those areas without going anywhere near I-12 or I-10. Could they not turn Florida Blvd east of Airline into a freeway? The service roads are already there. It just needs overpasses and on-ramps.

While true there are still plenty of bottlenecks. Only two ways to cross the Amite and Mississippi.
And I still say 18 wheelers are the largest contributor to traffic problems on I12.

Who the hell wants to carpool for work? I have to see those idiots all day long the morning drive is the only time I would get some quiet time

The Amite River has 3 crossings, and all of them can get congested.
I think new tolled 4 lane Amite River crossings are needed at S Harrell’s Ferry and Hooper Road. These shouldn’t be anywhere near as difficult to build as a Mississippi River bridge, which is also desperately needed.
ETA: There is a major problem pending with the lack of existing alternative routes to I-12 in southern Livingston between Hammond and Denham Springs. That means I-12 will always be the only east-west Route for local traffic generated by development that occurs south of the freeway. I’m not sure how Livingston Parish politicians don’t see this as a major problem to that region’s future.

100% true.
When I-12 is widened to 3 lanes in each direction east of Livingston, big rigs need to be strictly limited to the right two lanes only.

The state wants Baton Rouge-area workers to consider carpooling to their jobs to get as many cars as possible off packed roads before another round of construction on Interstate 10 begins.
When is this scheduled to begin? I'd like to know how much time I have left before I perform hara-kiri.

In Northern Virginia it's called slugging. You go to a commuter lot and pick up a couple of passengers that are waiting in a destination line (aka slug line) like the pentagon, Ft Belvoir, etc. so you can get in the HOV lanes. There are rules for passengers like no talking, no messing with the driver's radio, etc. Traffic sti
Yeah my luck the slug would be the guy posted above with the ax and the crappy Bud Light.
Now if he had Jucifer....

Finally, someone gets it. They'd rather you waste time while being in an office, versus finishing work quickly and using the rest of your day to do other important stuff.

Yall could always put a toll in between the free lanes like we do in Texas

I wonder how many of the DOTD folks will be carpooling ?

The problem in BR though is that those two lanes exit onto College and Acadian. The far left lane of I-12 brings you to I-110. So those trucks on 12 have to move over one, two or three lanes after the 10/12 merge.

So glad I moved away from that shithole. This project is only 30 years behind.

You know how much people frick off at work? Imagine how much they will at home.
When working from home I always found communication broke down. Everyone was plugged in, but often things weren't said that would have been said if someone was face to face

quote:And I 10 as well. When you see those stand still traffic jams at rush hour every day, count how many trucks there are. And each truck equals about 2 to 3 car lengths.
18 wheelers are the largest contributor to traffic problems on I12.
And then you have them going slow as frick in the left lane. And don't get me started on the fricking retard truck drivers who switch lanes. Even though it takes them 4 miles to pass somebody, they feel as though going 70 is so much slower than 73. I despise the big 18 wheelers.
And I think all trucking companies should be required to pay DOTD a monthly fee for driving through Louisiana to pay for the tire chunks that come off their tires and litter the roadways. DOTD needs to hire a crew where their job is to ride in a dump truck every day and pick those tire pieces up.
