Anymore? I think the present day is the safest time in history and I highly suspect schools are safer and less violent than when I was going through them in the late 80s / early 90s. The news and internet and how info spreads everywhere is all that’s changed. It looks bad but it’s always been bad.

I want to figure out how this app costs $4 million and what is the yearly subscription after that?

So there are more of these large events (which are extremely rare in the big picture) but what about rates of violence? I would highly suspect it’s much safer in schools now vs the early 90s even with the large/spectacular but very rare mass shootings.
It’s jsut like the people willing to give up rights and privacy’s over fear of terrorist attacks even though the likelihood that they are ever going to be involved in one is exceedingly small. The big events are picked up by the media and makes everybody scared and they overreact, spend tons of money trying to make themselves feel safe, and drill into the heads of everyone at that school that there’s something dangerous out there that we all need to fear and be on guard for. That’s a horrible approach imo

shite, most of this board is constantly on guard at their homes. Being on guard in public is second nature to these baws.

that will dramatically improve reporting and response times for teachers and other educators who face emergency situations while in their classrooms
How so? Is this really going to improve response times in an active shooter situation? I’d bet most school shootings are reported within 30 seconds of the first shot fired by phone calls to 911. Is this button really going to drastically improve on that? This seems completely unnecessary.

It won’t. You’ll have to find that app you never ever ever use on your phone somewhere, open it up, figure out how to use it, etc. Or you can dial 911. In an active shooter situation where you are panicking and probably not thinking straight which do you think you’ll do?
This app solves nothing at all and is just something to keep on your phone to constantly remind you to always be fearful and on guard. Just a reminder of mass hysteria.

If you thought zero tolerance went overboard. Wait until a mouse jumps out of a classroom cabinet.

Kids gonna crack the code and activate the button knowing full well its gonna frick them in the long run. Kinda like all that bullying they do on each other.

Yep, what a waste of funds. Typical.

So the retards that’s are calling in armed people in colleges which is nothing should go over so well in these situations

Yes, kids being murdered while trying to learn has been blown out of proportion. One time is too many.

I remember in highschool a classmate had an electric toothbrush go off in his bag during class and the teacher locked him in the class by himself and called the office for a bomb threat...
What could go wrong here?

another couple million wasted tax dollars so that crooked left leaning politicians can line their pockets and boast of this rubber stamp of an accomplishment; fixing an issue that statistically almost doesn’t exist or could be fixed drastically cheaper and more practically by anyone not on government payroll or a giant POS.
Keep voting Democrat tho...

It skips the dispatcher, basically. Also depending on the situation, you may not be able to call but you can still use your app.
I'm pretty surprised this is unpopular among this many of you

Do you have any kids of your own?
Posted on 8/29/19 at 10:43 pm to slackster
I think you’re missing the mark. Whether or not it’s intentional, I do not know or care.
It’s likely unpopular here because of who’s in charge or who’s decided to take charge of leading the efforts to resolve the issue. This solution should be developed and implemented on the free market. The government, especially Louisiana government officials, shouldn’t be within 100 miles of the eventual solution.

Ohh Lord.
Here comes the irrational emotional high ground argument.

Yes, two. Both of which are in public school and I’d much rather they enjoy school worrying about math and English and friends and all the other stuff that should worry about and not about having to feel trained and prepared for school shootings and the fear that any day could be their last and it’s best to be well trained and on guard. Especially for something that for 99.999% of kids they’ll never see.

It's irrational to ask a question that I was genuinely wondering?
I could see how a person who has kids would feel differently from a person who doesn't. Is that a problem?
