The Louisiana pelican represents the state as nurturing to its citizens, thus the drops of blood as she pierces her breast to feed the young. Of course in reality it’s completely opposite in the local and federal level. Government TAKES from its citizens and draws blood from its citizens. Government is BAD !

You thought that was a bald eagle?

I get your point but it’s NOT a “Brown Pelican” either.

the brown pelican is the absolute top of the food chain and an apex predator. There is no bigger badass in the bird world…the closest thing to a dinosaur left

They look pretty majestic as they cruise just above the water. Fear inducing? Besides raptors, which birds are fear inducing?

Was about to type this. They are amazing how far they glide about a foot over the water. And when they feed they are flying about 10 to 15 feet above the water and then just fold up and dive on the feed fish.
Fun to watch.

Mockingbird is also the state bird of FL which is dumb.
People have been trying to change it for decades but a former lobbyist, Marion Hammer, had a hard on for the Mockingbird and killed every bill trying to change it over 30 years.

There are several groups now proposing to change it to the Scrub-Jay, Flamingo and Osprey.

All are better choices than the Mockingbird.

A wonderous bird is the pelican
It's Bill can hold more than it's bellican
It can take in its beak
Enough food for a week
But I'm damned if I know how the hell he can.

You clearly know nothing about ornithology. The brown pelican is a badass bird.

Scissor-tailed Flycatcher

From its long tail to its famous "sky dance," no other Oklahoma bird is more striking and identifiable than the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher. It was officially adopted by the State Legislature May 5, 1951 as the Oklahoma state bird. The common name is derived from its former Latin name-Muscivoria forficata, meaning "flying"-"scissors" and "to devour." In Oklahoma, scissortails can be found on open prairies, along tree-lined roads, and along roadsides perched on fences, limbs and in isolated trees. They consume a great number of grasshoppers, crickets, spiders, and other ground-dwelling insects making them economically important and popular with farmers and ranchers.

The Skydance bridge over I-40 in OKC was designed after it

I've always thought that the mockingbird was an awful choice for Texas. I think the Caracara would be a good choice since it's a regional bird.

Would have to agree with you. Cool bird, at least by bird standards. Doesn't look like some wimpy bird.

Fun Fact: No U.S. state has a member of the Corvid family as their state bird. Not even the Blue Jay.

Honestly this is a sad fact for the country. The smartest bird family has zero representation.
