Wait....are Filipinos actually named, or called, Changs...I worked with tons of Filipinos in San Diego and never met a Chang...or heard one referred to as a Chang....

Hhhhmmmmmmm....Interdasting that that is so horribly offensive to a Filipino.

Yep. There's prejudice and then there's racism.

This isn't necessarily an example of prejudice either. Chang is commonly associated with Asians and is a long running joke in referring to Asians. The guy is clearly Asian and the retard behind the counter thought it would be a good time to crack an unclever joke. That's not prejudice per se. Ethnic humor is not inherently prejudiced or racist.

Is the person who took the order different than the one who calls out the name to give them the coffee? If so, this could be a simple case of the 2nd employee getting pickles ****'d.

Various incarnations of “John”:

Ian - Irish
Sean - Scottish
Juan - Spanish
Jan - Slavic
Ivan - Russian

Who’s to say “Chang” isn’t the Asian variant?

What don't you understand exactly? Explain to me how cracking a joke about the commonality of a name or common term found in another language demonstrates a preconceived bias against someone?

Clearly, calling out his drink order with the wrong name disoriented him.

It's rude, unprofessional, and can easily be viewed as offensive. That doesn't make it racist, of course. It's amazing how much the word racist has lost any semblance of concise meaning.

if he pronounces it as "Chong," that's not a reach for the Barista to have made a mistake

Flip it.

What if the guy told them ‘chong’, but they wrote ‘john’ on the cup?

what would happen?
