Never been a fan of either.

Star Trek is much more philosophy and science oriented. Super nerdy and academic in nature.
Star Wars has some of the need appeal but it’s really an adventure/fantasy story set in space.
ST is more classically science fiction, SW is more simple fantasy. ST as a result has to stay more true to physics or at least explain the anomalies from physics.
People tend to find lots "wrong" with SW when they try to find the explanations and continuity in the science. Some of the hate for The Last Jedi is a result of this.

I like both. I’m kind of surprised you don’t at least like the original 3 Star Wars trilogy. It’s really a western in outer space.
Being an avid fan of westerns, I find I really like sci-fi and fantasy that mimic the morality play of most traditional westerns. I like Samurai movies for the same reason.
At the risk of hijacking this thread, I think you’d like the 1981 Sean Connery movie Outland. It’s been called High Noon in outer space.

Never could get into either one, they are both dorky.

I like the modern Trek movies. The original series is so campy, it's funny. The original SW trilogy was just huge for the time. They both have their respective places in pop culture.

Why is it considered "cool" to like Star Wars
After TLJ, I thought it was cool to hate Star Wars?

If you’re a Star Trek fan watch The Orville it’s great.

You will see why it's cool to like stsr wars after you fly the millennium falcon. Chewy is not a bad partner, either.

Yo Han, remind me again how quick was your Kessel Run again?

A parsec is a measure of distance, not time.

I didn't think any were particularly cool. to like. Last I heard it was a bunch of dorks who knew all the characters and obsessed over it.

I appreciate it, but it’s not that I just don’t like those two, just not a fan of sci fi in general.

Star Wars is a show made for children. Just look at the names - Han Solo, Darth Vader, Chewbacca the Wookie, Luke Skywalker
Star Trek had more complex, serious plots and appeals to adults. It paints a more realistic picture of the future and offers more hope for humanity.

No kidding, you ruined the trap I set for the fake Han, notice I didn't use parsec in my question.

It's cool to be nerdy now bc people want to appear complicated and different.

I never got into Star Trek, I can't answer this. As for as Star Wars, I like it because I grew up with it, but Disney has really fricked it up in away I can't get into it.
Disney will frick up a wet dream.
