You have no idea what you're talking about. Kirk was a reckless horndog who had no business being a captain. Picard was the epitome of a captain and professionalism, and he was still a badass that would beat Kirks arse.

There is a lot of crap out there, but I have learned to like a lot of the new music as well. As for as movies, there are obviously still good movies being made, but I think Disney rips people off. Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, etc.. They are cashing in on an already established brand and providing watered down versions of what they use to be.

They can put out a new Star Wars movie every few years and it doesn't matter how good it is, people will be lined up to see it and continue to purchase Star Wars merchandise. And because of that, they can afford to not spend as much on production.

Star Wars has always been big budget, mass appeal series while Star Trek (until the JJ Abrams era) generally was not.

I love both series, though.
