Why is it considered "cool" to like Star Wars and uncool to like Star Trek.

A semi-serious answer may be that ST had a very campy start.
ETA there is also probably an element of ST fatigue. Tons of long-running series along with a lot of movies as well.

Star Wars is about the general human condition and finding your place in the world and learning how to grow up (original trilogy) and there is space and monsters and cool shite.
Star Trek is cool in that’s what society could be. If we quit all of our bullshite and started all working together, our human society can reach its pinnacle amidst the stars.

Well, Star Trek takes place 250 years from now after mankind had nearly wiped itself out in wars so in the distant future, when reorganizing society, it’s possible. It’s optimistic.

Star Trek is much more philosophy and science oriented. Super nerdy and academic in nature.
Star Wars has some of the need appeal but it’s really an adventure/fantasy story set in space.
