Always been my favorite. You do know it’s public, right?

Buy my house for full asking price and I'll throw in a couple of rounds.

My older brother grew up on Pugo St. After a few inches of rainfall the water backed up in the Pithon Coulee to Bank Street. In order to get to Central School kids had to cross Bank Street in a rowboat.

I recall a package liquor store down the street on Kirkman and 10th. I still have an shot glass which identifies as L & S Liquor. I was told that they were Lavoi & Sylvester who were brothers-in-law. The Golden Bakery was across Kirkman Street. When I was about sixteen or seventeen I was known by the owners of these businesses.
As opposed to City Counsel member John Ieyoub, I predict Section Eight housing for that block.

Mine as well. There's a gal I graduated with on fb who is militant against the move. The only reason she has really given is that she will have to drive further.

Interesting turn of events.
There were efforts to move Redemptorist high school from North Baton Rouge to South Baton Rouge. The facilities were not competitive compared to other private schools. And the target demographic was all based out of South Baton Rouge, Zachary, Central. None of those wanted to send their kids to NBR.
Unfortunately long term alumni, CSOBR, and many other traditionalists stopped the move.
That decision ultimately killed the school.
You have to look at private schools in the same vein as a business. And the first rule of store front type businesses is you choose a location that is smack in the middle of your target demographic.
Moving a long time Catholic school can be a controversial issue. But not moving it could often be the death knell

I though some of the appeal was the location. So people close to downtown who live along the lakefront/Sallier St., Chapentier district, etc. whose school district sucks have a good school close by. Is Barbe HS getting bad enough for people who live in SLC to not want to send their kids there?

And it isn’t like Catholic schools haven’t moved before.
I drive past plaques in downtown BR on the way to work saying “Spot of original CHS-BR” or “Spot of original SJA-BR”, right by St Joseph’s Cathedral. Those schools have moved and moved again as needs changed that pushed them out of downtown.

YES, busting at the seams +1950 enrollment, buildings leak, mold, dust, out of zone trouble makers that can't be expelled & zero room to grow.
Calcasieu parish school board did a shite job with the south LC schools. Several bond proposals have failed and will fail due to the SB's incompetence. They traded the new school property for their current location (old sams building). That should have been the new school south Lake Charles needed but it's a horse farm now.

Those folks do send their kids to St. Louis but that makes up a very small portion of enrollment. Most of the enrollment comes form SLC.

It's not that Barbe's a bad school, but moreso St. Louis is a better school and many parents in LC put a great value on a Catholic education. There are also many alumni that just want to see their kids go to the same school they went to.

Better academics?
Better sports?
Really not debatable, Barbe is twice the school St Louis is on those above.

It isn't just parent in LC.
St Louis pulls from all of Calcasieu and Cameron.
The move will really add serious commute time to students west of the river.

I’ve been reading people saying the same thing about driving further. Is 5 miles really that big of a hassle in Lake Charles were not talking about Baton Rouge traffic

Higher ratio of students taking advanced courses, amount of scholarship $ given, ACT scores.
It's an uneven field, the feeder schools for Barbe both have advanced pods where the catholic schools don't.

That's a little subjective and depends on the quality of regular courses vs AP courses at each school.

Is that per capita? How much is merit based?

ACT scores
Where do you find that info?

dude the morganfield area is going to blow up. Most of it is far enough south to not be by the ghetto. Waterside and pretty much all the way down 397 is going to be a part of the greater morganfield community. Its not gonna be all dr horton homes, gonna have a bunch more developments like waterside with real nice houses.
People are going to stop going any more south and SW LC doesnt have much more to develop if you dont go further south. going anymore south than gauthier starts bringing in huge issue with insurance and Im not sure you will be able to get insurance at all for new builds that far south.
They have the little small portion in the back of university that can still be developed.
then you have the areas on the norht side of W Sallier across from Terra Saint and walnut grove that will be developed, but other than that....it has to go SE.
the red would be the closest thing to ghetto and there are hardly any houses there. All the ghetto is on the other side of 14 near the interstate. Then on the north side of 210. Morgan field is a long ways are from there.
As you can see the green and blue areas are MF, thats a ton of land and if it goes well they will purchase more along 397. Its not ghetto nor will it ever be.
your statement about subdivisions in MB becoming ghetto is idiotic too.
In the end, LC has no choice but to expand in the SE. the Only other places are the ones I mentioned.

Way past due. One should not be required to travel through a ghetto to obtain a Catholic education.
Like the ghettos, Juvenile Detention Facility and section 8 housing you have to drive by to get to Morgan Field, which will soon be section 8 housing?
