The only reason cock fighting was illegal was because the states weren't receiving taxes. We have casinos here. What's the difference? Both lose people money.

My great uncle, who lived in Opelousas, raised rooster that he’d bring to fights. In fact, a couple days before he passed away, one of his buddies brought his rooster to a fight, and it apparently won the whole thing.

Hold on a second. Sure this is trashy AF, and embarrassing. But...
We're looking at too small of a picture here. We're all thinking this is happening out back behind the VFW hall in Church Point, but imagine if it was happening at the Chicken Fighting Arena at Evangeline downs? The fights televised around the world. You could go on Fan Duel and bet on Bandit vs Maverick for the grand Saturday finale? The amount of hate and vitrol it would attract online would equate to billions of dollars in free publicity.

This isn't dog fighting. You don't have to train these birds to fight. They already know how. I have been to them multiple times and I don't see the big deal.

I grew up around cock fighting. It wasn't too bad. Just people betting on a fight; HOWEVER, after hours they would put metal spurs on the chickens who lost and let them fight to the death. Can't say i want to see that aspect come back to life.
But the foundation of cock fighting isn't that big of a deal. It was fun and taught 15 year old me how to make bets and how to handle people who didn't want to pay their losses. Good life experience but i wouldn't bring my kids today.

If you grew up around it you already know that it wasn't AFTER HOURS. They've been using spurs and knives for centuries. I've never been to a fight where they didn't use them. I've been to quite a few before they got shut down. Kaplan, Rayne, Church Point etc. My family had world class birds.
