I went on a business trip to Chandler, AZ and they had a similar set with a company called VIA. It was one of those huge vans and wasn't point to point exactly. Seemed like a good deal, you could sit in the van and go across town for like $1.50.

Good if it reduces drunk driving accidents, injuries and deaths.
ONE person with bad injuries requiring ambulance, maybe helicopter, maybe one or two surgeries, rehab can cost a government (since if the person is on medicare or medicaid that is who will pay) hundreds of thousands of dollars. A person I know was hit badly on the Long Island Expressway by some drunk, pulled by good samaritans from the burning wreck and airlifted to the Trauma One Hospital on Long Island (Stony Brook) and the helicopeter alone cost 87,000 dollars and goodness know what they had to pay to help thje drunk guy who was even worse off but alive.And that is before even one doctor cut anyone open.

It would be interesting to get some data on how many Baton Rouge residents use CATS and how many St. George resident's use. I suspect there would be a significant contrast between the two.
Also, someone tell me if I'm incorrect, but I believe there are CATS routes in what is St. George. Given many BR residents complained about only their taxes going up to fund CATS (not St. George residents) and BR's constant complaint about St. George "using BR's public services", it seem like this would be a big win for BR as they will no longer have to pay for CATS service to St. George.

The parish wide vote to implement the CATS tax was defeated.
Subsequently the parish leaders created the current CATS taxation district which excluded areas like SG and Central and the tax passed.
They can’t blame SG for their tax woes.

Maybe 30 people per day in Baton Rouge and 0 per day in St. George. I am only saying 30 because of the big group of people who hang out at the bus stop by Cortana Walmart. No telling how many actually get on the bus.
The buses you’ll see in St. George are probably just passing through to get to the Mall of LA.
CATS is a financial drain on BR but no one will get rid of it. Too many people make money off of it.

Most residents never or hardly use a bus

CATS is less socialist than a deal with Uber. Glad you clarified that.

Why not partnership with Exxon for cheaper gas while they are at it?
