Gravy acting like St. George is a result of racism and not people trying to run away from the asinine bullshite we see come out of city hall and the school system every day is amazing.

Don’t care if my kids will be too old to attend St George ISD Schools when this happens. This needs to happen to curtail the mass exodus from this parish.

Thanks Gravy. I was honestly on the fence with my decision. Hearing your thoughts really helped. Pass me that petition.

Check out the first comments under Gravy’s Post:

“That area is what helps fund EBR schools...so that they can have FULL control over their schools like central.”

That sums it up pretty well. We are tired of a terrible system where we can’t send our kids to and have no options other than paying for private schools.

Gary Chambers will ultimately be the catalyst for St. George.

If the property tax increase is less than the $1000 a month we budget for private school every year, that’s a net win for families with school aged children.

If you look at a state like Texas with good neighborhood schools, the higher property taxes protect home values in the area.

The proof is in the pudding, but don't think all the private schools have nothing but angels either. They don't; however, the administration will weed the bad types out in a hurry.

That's the key, isn't it? Private schools can still use "frick you, get out" and aren't government run day care.

The real answer is to move back as close to downtown as possible and drive the prices up with renewed properties. Gentrify. All the great things about being downtown will multiply 10 fold. It would help the Lsu area which should be gentrified asap. For those who haven’t been to downtown New Orleans lately you would be shocked at the amount of young professionals moving there and the amount of construction of high dollar, nice city living. There’s where’s it’s at. Drive the poors out.

There’s no such thing as good government schools.

There is a lot of hate towards Texas property taxes but there is no state income tax.

The money for property tax fund amazing schools. Will be interesting to see if St. George can build a school to whats in Katy or Cyfair or Cinco Ranch area. But then again no state income tax.

Will St. George have property taxes go up to Houston levels?

Oh, there are some places that aren't as fricked as Louisiana. Go to Plano or Frisco, TX and see how an unfricked group of people run things.

In other words we don't really like you but we still need you to pay for everything.

That has to be the most twisted logic for supporting St. George yet.

If they get an ISD, probably.

What is the logic in opposing it exactly?

Just encourage more of the tax base to move to Ascension and Livingston for better public services?

Go look at what has happened to neighborhoods where there is “white flight” from Baton Rouge. The people moving in do not care about the properties or their schools, and it drives home values down. Reading through all the threads about the great areas that used to be in Baton Rouge before the forced bussing and loss of true neighborhood schools drives the point home.

I don’t want to jump from house to house which adds in real estate costs or loss of property value, and would rather pay a little more to have a real community asset that keeps like minded people anchored to the same area.

That will be something to watch. High property taxes, state income tax, LA taxes, high cost of insurance, etc...

I supported an ISD in Collierville, TN when it was setup in 2015. I still wish we didn't have to move away, but I'm glad we made a nice profit when we sold.

Every single incorporated suburb in Shelby County voted to set up their own school district that year. Shelby County's long term future is more secure for it, which is a good thing for Memphis.

I think East Baton Rouge would benefit from a new school district in St. George. It will help keep the tax base in East Baton Rouge. That's no replacement for focusing on revitalizing north Baton Rouge and mid city though. That needs to happen as well.

It's another pointless layer of government that most people don't really want just to supposedly try to get an ISD sometime later. I say "supposedly" because there is no guarantee that incorporation will actually help with that, and the people running the St. George petition don't seem to have done any actual planning toward that end.

Other than the schools, EBR is crushing those two parishes in public services.
