BATON ROUGE – Two and a half years after an initiative to form the city of St. George in southern East Baton Rouge Parish failed by 100 signatures on a petition, organizers once again are bringing the effort back.
On its official Facebook page Friday, the group announced it is pushing forward with plans to gather enough signatures to force a vote on forming St. George. The new effort will have different boundaries, though, sources have suggested, from its original version pushed in 2015.
The initiative was originally focused on creating an independent school district but expanded to include plans for an entirely new municipality similar to Central, Baker and Zachary.
In the summer of 2015, St. George narrowly missed its requirement of 17,859 signatures to force a vote. A new state law at the time banned the effort from returning for two years. The summer 2017 deadline passed with only chatter on social media.
But, that changed Friday.

I've got a feeling this thing will be bound by I-10, I-12, and Airline. Or maybe Jones Creek Road and all points east of it. In that case it's a shoe in.
I'll sign this time, if'n I can.

Please include me. I was like 1 or 2 streets away with the original map

The lack of services they will provide will be bad for both.
I don't see how you get around the legal issues with the schools.

Look for the city limits of Baton Rouge to expand again.

I flew over Ascension parish last week. The amount of new subdivisions going up, as seen from the air, is staggering!
White flight is happening already.

As long as it has the new MOAB on Gardere provision, I’m in.

How's this any different than what Central did?

Similar to Baker? Yikes.

I think it's up to the governor's discretion if he allows incorporation. I don't see Edwards going with it.
