Now this charter…? What’s going on? Is the honeymoon over?
The honeymoon was interrupted. People started asking questions when the big salaries passed and questions came up sbout the charter.
People looking for a system like central’s were getting something else.

Wait… left BR for the same reason and now people from former BR not dark skinned are also grifters?

So the non white residents of St. George have to move?
I guess it wasn't in the proposed charter and that's why the charter was not approved?

Was 4 amendments followed by the HRC.
Willing to bet most didn’t know what it meant and voted no.

I understand the reason why people want St. George, but by you saying its because of her.. Obviously she wasn't going to be in office forever. So now that she isn't in office would you still vote for it?
With that said, I want to say that if I lived there I would be for it simply because of its independent school system.

I voted no on the charter because it was a shitty charter

Exactly this. The new city leadership wanted to be paid what the mayor of BR is paid but then wanted to contract everything out so they have no real responsibility and are just a liaison. That opened up more questions above actual plan - which they just tried to ram in.
I think they are so used to just working on that small group that was leading the St George charge that they forgot that now that it’s a city they answer to everyone.
They need to go back to the drawing board and get an actual plan together and actually listen to the constituents.
And I say all this as a huge St George supporter

Yeah, plus it was on the ballot with the unpopular amendments.
After the stink of the mayor’s salary, etc. a few weeks ago, it surprises me that they still wanted to go with a city manager style government.
I mean if you can make $160k as a mayor and not have any real responsibility because the city manager runs the city, what a gig.

How much were they going to pay the city manager along with paying a ceremonial mayor $160k?
City manager might not be a bad thing, but the mayor position should then become basically a part time job and be like a glorified council member.

The biggest reason is to have their own school district - because you know EBR schools are mostly awful (beside the magnet schools)
That's a requirement from the State to have their own school district - they have to establish their own 'city'. It was the same as Central becoming a city to have their own school system.
Also for STG to have control of the taxes they pay.

Is the group that started the process still mostly intact? Not just the faces but the ones doing work in neighborhoods and building support from the ground up.
It’s not nearly as bad a situation, but I was concerned that with incorporation’s approval by the courts taking so many years that StG might face a Baker school district type of problem where a lot of supporters and engaged citizens wanting the school district and willing to help it succeed gave up on Parker ever approving the district and moved their kids elsewhere. Now Baker schools are where they are now, but even at time of Parker’s approval the schools and the city already weren’t where they were when the school district process started.
Don’t know if some important or energetic supporters of StG moved on after awhile from the long wait with multiple judges saying no or even from Broome doing her best to move trash into StG and let stuff rot to kill off any new attempts at incorporating (if state supremes hadn’t shown some common sense).

I have seen that not all of the founders were for the HRC. He felt it was too many layers of government and would be too expensive.

I do not understand people saying “fix insurance”. Most of Louisiana is a high risk for insurance companies and they price accordingly. Most house prices should come down based on insurance prices which would be a good thing. Car insurance partially can be blamed on litigation, but we have a high amount of vehicles lost to storms or flood. Maybe flood should be a separate insurance for vehicles as it is for property insurance.

Yep.
Pay the mayor the same as a council member ($36,000) and then offload the mayor's work to a manager. That's fine.
But Yates wanted to get paid $160,000 while also offloading all the work to somebody else? That seems like a bold grift strategy even by Louisiana standards.
I haven't paid much attention to him until seeing him in this WAFB interview about it:

I can't tell if he's seething in this interview or just sad.

The Magnet Schools suck too. That includes BR Magnet.
