If somebody asked you where you live in the past, would you say "an unincorporated area near Baton Rouge"? No. You'd say Baton Rouge.

It's funny that this riles you guys up. Don't be so myopuc. While it's not technically splitting in two, it effectively is. What does your mailing address say? It's cracking me up. Why does this get you so fired up?
Because it's inaccurate. In every sense.
It seeks to either establish, or support, a false narrative for the purposes of misinforming people and/or preying on people's lack of understanding of issues in the hopes of achieving a desired political outcome.
In other words, it's propaganda.

You really don't find this to be silly? If somebody asked you where you live in the past, would you say "an unincorporated area near Baton Rouge"?
If the person asking the question is not from EBR, I say BR. If the person is from EBR I tell them my neighborhood.
I’ve always done this whether I lived inside the city limits, or outside the city limits.
It’s no big deal.

Regardless, I just think it's funny how the phrase "splitting the city" triggers you guys. Everybody, including you as evidenced by your stated goals, thinks of it this way.
I correct people that say that when debating SG issues because it implies that living in SG entitles me to the same amenities that BR has when we do not have the same amenities.
It also sloughs over the idea that citizens besides those living in BR have the desire to live in a city and enjoy what we perceive as a better way of life.
If there’s no difference in living in s city and living outside the city; why is there a BR? Or if cities are so bad and expensive as SG opponents state, why doesn’t BR close shop and become unincorporated?
It seems you guys want it both ways.

I think you guys take yourselves too seriously. Enjoy all of your new amenities when StG is in place.

As someone previously mentioned, it is a term that you and all of the others that oppose the SG movement use to sow discord.

We will. It’ll be like a giant “country club” as the lawyer you guys hired to oppose us stated.

Their lawyer thinks we are making the St. George Country Club, located in East Baton Blanc Parish.

No, I find people saying st George is splitting off silly. Because they are either ignorant, or flat out lying. I’ll let you decide which you are.

Well, I live downtown. Not in st George. So if you were to ask me where I live, I’d correctly say Baton Rouge. Because I live in Baton Rouge.
If I lived in st George, I’d say I live in Baton Rouge because that’s the closest city and it’s easier to say than “I live just outside the city limits of Baton Rouge in an unincorporated area”

No, we don’t call it “splitting the city” because that’s a flat out lie.
I’m Sorry you’re unable to state simple facts and that you allow your ignorance to shine brighter than any sun.

I’m changing my profile location from St George, LA to St George Country Club.

We?
You’ve been here all day putting out misleading information and arguing why we should sit still.
And we take ourselves too seriously?

Here are some fun numbers I just looked through:
For the 2015 governor's race, the St. George precincts had a 45.7% turnout.
Which would mean if the turnout is the same in 2019, about 23,674 people will actually vote (51,804 registered voters in the St. George area). If half of the petition signers actually vote (which I would imagine would be much higher), they would have 8,551 votes (17,102 signatures). The remaining 15,123 voters would have to vote "no" at a 78.5% clip.
Basically, if overall turnout is the same as 2015, the petition signers would win the election if 70% (69.23% but who's counting?) of signers show up to vote.

I know we have the votes because SWB is all out trying to change the rules and MOP is by her side ready to suit.
City Hall knows how the vote will turn out already.
We just need to vote.

It will pass easily. What will be sad to watch is all of the outside powers-that-be who try to stop it, some of them pretending to actually reside in the area. The signage alone will be enough to vote for it.
Posted on 5/10/19 at 2:51 pm to rowbear1922
Which is why they are trying to drown out the area’s ability to vote on it. Cause they can’t fricking win on the merits.

Curious what the population numbers are for central, zachary, etc... Is it that booming of people leaving EBR parish? Zachary had 3 plants close and the population is still booming.

Even if there was record voter turnout of say 75%, which the 2016 presidential election only hit 73% for the st George precincts, the opposition would need 64.15% of the remaining voters to win at just 50% of signers voting.
ETA: If 75% of signers vote, the opposition would need the rest to vote "No" at a 74.64% clip.

Parish wise the population is given. So is BR’s population. Livingston is up as is Ascension.
Central was severely impacted by the blood but grew 6+% since 2010 (2018 numbers)
Zachary grew 12% from 2010 to 2016. I didn’t find the 2018 numbers.

as BR hasn’t really annexed any residential areas in about 30+ years as a result.
in between the 1st petition and the 2nd petition, BR annexed a small subdivision north of coursey and east of stumburg...
35 residential houses annexed
Posted on 5/10/19 at 3:16 pm to tigeraddict
But wasn’t that annexed just to get to the mall?
Edit: never mind, I’m thinking of something else.
