Four laning that one stretch is like putting a band aid on a major gash. What about the stretch up the road from that? There is usually a solid line of cars extending from Hwy 22 all the way to that point every evening when the plants make relief (~5 pm). That is the facts that I’m going by, jackass.

Still a shite show since right past that area people can't turn left or right depending on where you are coming from, nor can the side streets get out. I assume in 4-10 years they will put a light up, some afternoons the area near Pelican Point and the Cabin are horrible with traffic.

No it's not. EA is a ghetto school that ranks WAY lower in test scores than the other two schools. Only people that think EA is a good school are EA alumni from 25 years ago.

The traffic in both suck due to the plant Baws and the white flight. Ascension is allowing lots of building and new neighborhoods, but the roads/infrastructure are 30 years behind the growth.

Traffic is a cluster frick and will be for next 10 yrs.

EVENTUALLY 74 should get an I-10 interchange to help Dutchtown and 42 from 61 to Port Vincent will be 5 laned , as well as 44 from 42 to 61. That will help North St Amant get to 61 and I-10.

The 5 laned project has been going on for like 5 years and looks worse and further from completion than it did 4 years ago

It will be interesting to see how the Conway and Heritage Crossing developments in the City of Gonzales continue to come to form. Both are well planned developments in which the developers are putting money in to improve current infrastructure.

They're putting in a turn lane to get in and out of the neighborhood. That's not improving the infrastructure. They need to 4 lane Hwy 44 to make up for the plant traffic that makes that road completely useless at shift change every evening. Same thing with Hwy 74 and Hwy 73. During turnarounds, it is absolutely miserable to be trapped on at rush hour.

Dipsydoo explained to you what the developers of Conway are doing. Why would they care about traffic at Pelican Point and The Cabin? Tell Doug Diez and Dempsey Pendarvis to fix shite if they plan to put in a development that will increase the traffic flow in that area.

Right, he presented it as though they were providing improvement to infrastructure in general. It's improvements to infrastructure in regards to the residents, only of that neighborhood. Not for all residents on Highway 44. That's a big arse development and will easily add double (if not triple) the congestion in that part.

Why would they care about traffic at Pelican Point and The Cabin?
First of all, which "they" are you talking about? The residents of the neighborhood, the developer, or the Parish? If you mean the residents, then it's because they'd like to be able to run errands and get around right? Or do the residents of that development plan to only stay at home all the time? The developers care because they will have a hard time selling brand new homes. The Parish doesn't give a frick and that part has already been long established.

I can't stand Doug Diez, but that is not his fault. Pelican Point isn't the problem. It's been there for over 20 years now. The problem is that you have major plants (Motiva Convent, Shell Geismar, plants by Shell) that have hundreds (thousands) of employees leaving and/or going to work at the same time, and they discovered that it's faster to take the back way and use Hwy 44 to get to/from I-10, rather than using Hwy 71 to Hwy 22 to I-10 or Hwy 30 to I-10. We have the same issue where I live with Hwys 74 and 73.

If the parish knows that this is a major artery to take on that volume of traffic every day, why the frick is it still just a two lane road (and now with a major development to add to the congestion)? This is the problem with Ascension Parish. Rubber stamp any development with no consideration of infrastructure improvement. Or in this case, selfishly make improvements that convenience the residents of that development only, and shite over everybody else.

The burden shouldn't be placed on the shoulders of the developer. It should be the parish being proactive. This is one thing (of many) that I feel Texas does right. They provide roads first, then build. In Louisiana, it's backwards. We jam pack neighborhoods and clog areas up, then build roads 20 years later.

By the way, my opinion isn't an assault on the developer. When I say "they", I'm talking about the Parish. Not the developer.

This I can confirm. It's making the 73 project look like a frickin modern marvel.

Got it. So you don’t know the facts then resort to name calling.

What do you want the developer to do, fix every road in the Parish??? You realize the city/parish line is there correct? You realize there is another DOT / Parish project for loosemore right.

The developer is doing their part. Even that small part is more than any other developer has agreed to pitch in for in more than 20 years if ever. At least the city had the balls to ask them to do something infrastructure-wise. The Parish doesn’t even ask....it’s been a few months, time for another subdivision on hwy 73.
