Families for La High School Athletics
I get that sports are a big part of peoples lives. I'm also not 100% on board with this shut down the world philosophy. But to read some of the stuff on this FB page is complete insanity. One wants their kid doing virtual learning but fears they won't be able to play sports because of it. Someone from Walker has named their kid Dreaux. With that spelling. Thoughts?

I’ll be upset if my son can’t play school sports this fall/year. He deserves this step as much as anyone before him.

I sure that this group of "mom/dad(s) sporting event parents will provide a lot of well thought out and intelligent conversations/post.

I can understand the kids wanting to play. For 99.5% of them, high school is as far as their athletic career will go. Missing a year would be a tremendous loss to a lot of them. For many others, it might be their best shot at college.

I joined just to read that shite. My kid is a dancer (studio and high school dance line) so not technically under LHSAA but NDA/UDA will follow most high school sports associations and cancel shite too if that is what they do. They have only had 4 practices since March.

They’ve practiced all summer...it would be a kick in the shorts to make them stop or tell them it’s too dangerous to suit up and actually play.

I think we just found one of the reasons our educational system is so fricked up.

the fact that athletics is viewed as a means to get into college or given the same significance as the academic aspect of high "school" is a bit depressing, no?

It’s adolescence. It’s THE motivator to do well and behave in school, it’s the release of energy, it’s coping with success and loss...it’s competition.

My son’s kind of a dumb frick, but he’s a great athlete. I figure I’ll let him be a kid and enjoy iit while it lasts. Being a dumb frick is something he’ll deal with one day...or he’ll find a rich girl at Ole Miss and live like a dumb frat boy his whole life...who knows,

The only thing that kept me going to class and motivated to keep my grades up in High School were sports. The routine and lack of free time kept me focused and out of trouble.
Granted my parents would have kept me inline, but looking forward to that football game on Friday made the week fly.
