Born and raised catholic and went to catholic schools.

I don't practice anymore because of a few things...

1. Confession. In no way shape or form is any man qualified to hear another man's sins and give a penance. I don't care what seminary you attended. I am jaded because of the sex scandal thing but I wouldn't want my son to be alone with a priest saying what they did wrong when they're a teen like masterbating or something like that.

2. Transubstantiation. It's bread and wine. Get over it psychos. This is the real world, if not have priests bless a vineyard and bring all that wine to a local hospital and pump it in someone and see what happens.

3. Monotony. Stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down, kneel....boring.

I think there are good principles to live by at its core and I'll always hold myself to, but actively practicing Catholicism is no longer for me.

So according to you nobody should believe they are following the best path in faith?

I stopped attending church when I realized that it was all about the money. They all are. Still live a clean life, and practice the faith I learned as a child. My kids went to Catholic school. Not because of need, but out of convenience.

Yeah. Institutionally covered-up, widespread sexual abuse of minors. No biggie. Everything has it's downside.

I was asking the person that I responded to. By his comments, it appears that he believes that.

Hell no. It's about being vigilant, and explaining to our kids that a Priest, or for that matter a Nun, doing anything to harm them, we needed to know, immediately.

I could'nt stand by and knowingly subject my kids to public school education. It would've been criminal.

I was raised Catholic.

Went to Catholic school for 4 years.

Me disassociating with the Catholic church happened before the sex abuse scandal, but when it first became news it didn't really surprise me.. Well, I guess the number of cases their actually was did a little, but as for as how the church handled it didn't surprise me at all. In fact, I thought the way it has been handled is/was typical.

Part of my views are due to my experiences while at a Catholic school.

One thing that bothers me is we don't see mass hoards of Catholics rising up and demanding change. Every Catholic I know has the "look the other way" mentality.

I listened to a documentary of an atheist who commited suicide when she was 15. She went straight to Hell.

Uhh...

Did she send a postcard back from hell?
