There are plenty of good wines in the $10-15/bottle range. Your average person probably couldn't taste the difference between a lot of those and a $50/bottle in a blind taste test.

I'm far from a wine connoisseur and pretty far from a refined palate, but when I worked in higher end restaurants I was able to taste some really expensive wine and I completely agree with you. Once, a guy left me the last half glass of wine he brought in and told me that it was $2000 a bottle. I figured he was lying and googled it. The cheapest I could find it online was $2200 a bottle.

Anyway, I drank it and I swear I like Camus Pinot better and it's like $25 a bottle. I'll never understand how/why someone would pay $2000 RETAIL for a bottle of wine.

Just showing off or they have money to burn. I've never had a 2k bottle but I've had a few that were a couple of hundred. Once you get above the $6 gut rot I can't taste the difference.

My wife loves this red blend called 7 Moons. It's like $12 and tastes perfectly fine to me.

That's alot of wine to for not alot of money. What's your "house" wine?

Costco has a lot of good wines for $10-$15. I have a few I always get but I also try some new ones regularly. They tell you the wine enthusiast rating and I also use an app called Vivino. You take a picture of the label and it gives you a rating and average price and you can read reviews.

$100 for me and the wife. I go through a few cases of beer a month and usually share a few (usually Michelob, Yuengling, or Abita). Wife usually gets one bottle of wine. We might buy one or two glasses or pitchers when we eat out.

Same here. I hardly drink anything but wine anymore. I've started biking on Saturday and Sunday now so my wine intake has reduced. We probably spend $300-$500 a month depending on the occasions.

Very true. I had a liquor/wine rep tell me one time that most of those $8 wines all come from the same generic vineyards, just label them differently and distribute them through different retailers.

I used the think the $2 buck chuck from Traders Joes was absolutely fine for every night drinking. Would buy several bottles at a time. Of course, I'm an alcoholic and my girlfriend at the time was from Gueydan so it's not like we had very high standards.

I have this as well and I don’t love it. Most affordable wines are all ranked within a couple fractions of a point of each other and none of the affordable ones are super highly rated.

That means different things to different people obviously but you are right. In my dealings you can't find a bottle of elite wine for less than a couple hundred dollars. I have found a "good" bottle of a spicy cabernet sauvignon for sixty bucks. I don't drink like I used too and when I do I drink the good stuff. Maybe the great stuff on anniversaries and what not. Once I tried a bottle of good wine it was impossible to enjoy a bottle of twenty dollar wine after that. You wouldn't think the difference is that large but it is.
