Notice who wrote the book about the milk and donut boys - Jay Dardenne. It's about the LSU Sigma Chi chapter.

I was a GDI at LSU in the late 80’s and met and married a Kappa Alpha Theta. Even though I wasn’t in a frat the Thetas were all really nice to me and I had a blast at all the parties. I think back then they were seen as the cool girls who weren’t drop dead gorgeous and weren’t skanks.

I was next door at the same time. Also joined in the Marathon, which Jay Dardenne headed up for a good while.

At Tennessee, the Pikes were top tier but always in trouble, especially after the butt chugging incident of 2012 (the guy who did it was my high school classmate as a matter of fact). Lambda Chi, Pi Kap, and SAE were near the top. All of them got in serious trouble too.

Sorority tiers:
Phi Mu
A O Pi
DZ
Tri Delt
KD

Bottom tiers were Pi Phi (Pies Burgers and Fries) and Sigma Kappa (Sigma Cattle)

I went to a few ZTA formals bc one of my buddies was dating one, which was like the only interaction I ever had with greek life at LSU. "Zits, Tits, and Ass" was an apropos moniker. They were for the most part, an interesting looking group of gals.

Is it just me, or were the LSU Frats in the late 90’s pretty segregated by geography?
New Orleans - Fiji, Acacia, Kappa Sig
BR & Shreveport - Sigma Chi & Lambda Chi (“Milk & Donuts Boys” definitely fits)
NE Louisiana & Small Towns - KA
Acadiana - Sigma Nu
Expelled from the Depths of Netherworld - DKE

Sororities were a little more geographically diverse, but some tended to have more girls from one area than others. DZ, DG & Tri-Delt favored New Orleans; Phi Mu slightly favored BR.

Knew a dude who went active as a Pi Kappa Alpha at Louisiana Tech. He then transferred to LSU and became a Deke. Everyone had no respect for him and called him a Dike.

Last I heard he is a two bit ambulance chaser lawyer in BTR. Pretty shitty.

Greek life didn't get its homoerotic reputation by coincidence.

I was a Kappa Sigma. Early 90’s era. My dad was one as well so a legacy but I think by and large most chapters in the old SEC footprint kinda shared the similarities between alumni, actives, and what they wanted to see from pledges. I think all the chapters were also held in pretty high regard or so it seemed from going to other houses for football games. Not saying we all got along but typically if you were a Kappa Sig at one chapter you could probably fit in at another chapter.

Even though I was a legacy I went through rush. I actually knew several actives and they had heard other fraternities were telling prospective dudes about to rush that you would be hazed bad if you pledged with Kappa Sigma so they asked me to go through and be kind of a mole. I did and I honestly thought the KA’s were cool as shite and I literally damn near went KA but I made the right decision by staying the course. But the rumors weren’t rumors, we got hazed like red headed step kids.

I knew my share of Phi Delta Theta’s and they fly under the radar for being goobers. TKE was worse so they go unnoticed. This was in the 80’s.

DKE chapter at LSU for the last few decades was mostly New Orleans, north shore, and every now and then Shreveport.

I went to high school in New Orleans with several of them and during my one year at LSU in the mid-00’s, DKE was basically starting over and just getting back on campus.

Last I heard they were cleared to start up again either this year or next.

Chi O and Tri-Delt were the best sororities. Kappa, Pi Phi, KD, and Theta ran a close second. There was nothing wrong with DZ, DG, and Phi Mu.

I’m not sure I would put Theta in that list. They weren’t great in the 90’s and are the bottom house now.

Tri Delt and KD were rich girls from North Louisiana (obviously more than that but if you got more than three together at the same time at least one of them would be from Neville or Captain Shreve). They hated each other with a passion. Chi O had a lot of religious girls. Kappas were the most fun to be around. DG and Theta were mid. I dont have a take about the others.

Other fraternities were in one of two groups: those you had a wary truce with or those you threw down with on sight.
