Spinoff: A person or persons has gained access to your house

It's the middle of the night. You wake up and hear someone inside your house. You and your wife are in your bedroom. Your two teenagers are upstairs asleep. You have a gun or guns in your bedroom. What do you do? Do you actively hunt down the intruder? Wait for him/them to come to you? What about the kids upstairs? A terrible situation to find yourself in, but not outside the realm of possibility.

Hunt down carefully. If not he/she could get to your sleeping kids first. Plus, the element of surprise is crucial.

No, but you might automatically think about something that was discussed in this thread and it could save you and your family, or get you all killed depending on who you listen to. I've used advice or suggestions that I read on here months later

Get gun, quietly get out in hallway near top of stairs and hold the high ground.

Is the parents' bedroom upstairs or downstairs? If I were downstairs in this scenario, I'm going hunting. If I were in my house where all bedrooms are upstairs, then there is a spot that I can sit in and have a clear shot of anyone coming up the stairs before they can find me.
That being said, I'll probably still go hunting. I'm a materialistic person, and don't want my shite downstairs stolen.

Assuming the kids are in different rooms, quickly grab both kids and wife and bring into same room and wait for intruder to enter.
If that's not an option, I'd probably hunt him down with my finger on the trigger.
