A man staying at a lodge in Tasmania, Australia witnessed a horrifying scene: a large huntsman spider eating what appears to be a pygmy possum. The large arachnid clung to the side of the door, clutching its prey and creeping out its unsuspecting audience.

This is the only time I'll root for the spider.

Opossums are a bunch of assholes

Opossums eat 5000 ticks a year. I’ll take the mutant rat over the eight legged freak.

And Tasmanian Pygmy Possums are the smallest of the pygmy possums, I believe. This one was about the size of a large walnut

That's not very big

it's always creepy to see an invertebrate kill and eat a vertebrate.

opossums are actually awesome. they eat a ton of ticks and other harmful pests.. and they tend to stay away from you.. they don't really want trouble.

Why is that watching in horror?

Spiders eat stuff just like animals eat other animals.

Utterly, horrifrickingfying.

If I saw that I'd shite my pants, then evacuate all the people and warm blooded animals (except for the Kangaroos and Drop-Bears cause they hate humans as much as those infernal 8 legged pig-frickers), then arrange for a very small*, low density, meteorite impact on that place. That fricker will never see it coming.

* Just massive enough to survive entry into our atmosphere, but not heavy enough to penetrate the crust or cause seismic activity or knock out the power on the island.

Yep, opossums are actually very docile creatures; when cornered or threatened they’ll play dead rather than attack like a raccoon or other similar animal would. They get a bad rep because most people don’t think they’re cute.

As creepy as some animals are on this planet, imagine how freaky shite would look to us if/when we saw critters on another planet.
