Change the coupler, use a HD one with the metal inserts. (Tap on with a spark plug socket, 5/8, perfect size)
Change the agitator dogs.
You will need to buy a spanner wrench to take tub out.
If you are ordering parts online, pumps are cheap.
You change all that and pretty much everything connected to the output of the drivetrain is brand new.
If you were to order all those parts online, at Amazon. Probably cost $40-50 including clutch.

Meh, just get a simple Roper or Estate.

My parents got a new one about a year ago; found it on some site online. Took them quite a while to find one, or the one they wanted, but they were determined to get a Speed Queen; they swear by it. I wish I would've done the same about 6 months ago when I got a new washer & dryer bc I'm not thrilled with the washer, but I was impatient & just got a GE set from Lowe's. I've used their Speed Queen, & I definitely like it better.

It's so weird to me that the OT worships a washing machine.

Well, nothing sucks worse than a shitty appliance, especially a washing machine. I'm pretty picky about mine bc I want them to work well with zero issues, at least for a while. It's too much of an expense & pain in the arse to have constant appliance maintenance issues or to replace them often.

Good advice 3-5 years ago. Not so much now.

I wish SQ was listed on the stock market. I'd be on it like sonic.
More and more people are going to get fed up with the shite that the major manufactures put out.

I bought a Speed Queen two months ago just because of the recommendations here. Apparently it works great. It's a lot smaller than the LG direct drive pos that would never balance or run a full cycle. It's just works. You know what they say... happy wife happy piihb time for me.

Lynn's Interiors in Thibodaux also stocks them.

Thoughts on Kenmore Elite top-load washers circa 2011?

Brandon's in amite sells them and swears by them.

Hebert's Maytag in Laffy. I have them in my home.

Speed Queen seems to have a much smaller tub size than the big box stores' units. Is this accuracate or marketing BS by the others?

My appliance repair guy who I've used for many years bought himself a Whirlpool Cabrio a few years ago and the lady who takes the calls at their shop bought one also. They say they've had no issues so far, but I saw some awful reviews.
What do you think about that machine?
Other than Speed Queen, which isn't sold around me, do you recommend any others?

What bothers me is the way the government tries to dictate what kind of machine we buy or how they operate. No fun washing clothes twice like my wife does because its a crappy "energy efficient" machine.

I recently bought this top load Speed Queen (AWNE92SP113TW01) from Goedekers
LINK
They had a sale earlier this year that knocked the price down to $899.00. I applied another discount I found online to knock off another $15.00. Free delivery and no sales tax, so I was sitting at $879.00. When I unboxed the unit, I noticed a small "impression" on the rear at the bottom. The customer service folks agreed to knock another $75.00 off for that issue. All told, I paid slightly over $800 for the unit.
The Speed Queen is replacing a lovely 6-year old Samsung washer that was among those being recalled (bleach dispenser had rusted through, leaving a huge hole). The wife and I LOVE the Speed Queen. Was surprised it uses HE detergent, which was fine. Just wish we had purchased one 20 years ago.

Barrett Appliance in Bossier lists Speed Queens on their site. Not sure if they keep them in stock, but it looks like they can get you one.
Someone should start an online appliance brand/company: shite That Works.
Sell simple but reliable appliances with a good warranty. No computer BS. No 9-level fabric softener dispenser, microwave rotisserie, etc. Just wash the damned clothes and cook the damned food. I'd pay extra for their products.
Their motto should be, "If you can't afford shite That Works, then frick you. Go somewhere else."

I'm debating this now. - I want SQ but it's $1600 for the pair.
Is there any brand or model you'd trust if you wanted to limit yourself to $1000 or so?
