I'd buy the washer now and get a dryrer later.

I'm debating this now. - I want SQ but it's $1600 for the pair.
Is there any brand or model you'd trust if you wanted to limit yourself to $1000 or so?
You can pay $1600 now and be set for 20 years, or you can pay $900 today and $900 five years from now, and then $900 5 years after that.
As to another brand, the answer is no. There's an appliance repairman here in thibodaux. He's in his 80's and doesn't get a dime from Speed Queen. In fact, he says they cost him money because he never gets called out to fix them. He said it's the only brand to buy.
Throw in the fact that it's an American Company that employs American Workers and it's a no brainer.

Speed Queen seems to have a much smaller tub size than the big box stores' units. Is this accuracate or marketing BS by the others?
Yes, the SQ tub is smaller than most. That said, I haven't found myself longing for larger loads. Plus the wash cycles on average are much shorter, meaning you probably can wash two SQ loads in the time it takes to wash one load with a typical HE unit.
