What was the POS goalie doing there? I’m not a soccer fan, is that normal procedure?

He was trying to get to the ball before the player in white. If he didn’t, it was probably going to be a wide open 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper. Yes, it’s a normal play. The collision was unfortunate.

I wonder if this is just another point that shows how amazing the response to Demar Hamlin was a few years ago.

When Federation rules in High School Football forced the three yard no man’s land around the field. Two collisions, that year, killed three and paralyzed one for life. Head Coach and Ref died in one collision, Referee died in another while the coach became a paraplegic.

It’s amazing that more people aren’t killed every year. I can’t begin to tell you how many people I’ve ran over and bounced off of in 25 years of chasing your children.

Can you explain this comment to someone who doesn’t follow soccer? What’s the 3 yard no man’s land and was the rule change helpful or harmful?

The three yards is the white around a football field. It wasn’t require until about 12 years ago. Only Pro and college had the band. Simply stated….no one but the Ref is supposed to be there. It was after run zone because Refs run that lane when a field flips.(Fumble, interception, break away.) your running a looking over your shoulder, not at what’s ahead of you.

It’s amazing there seem to be fewer accidents on a soccer field, when no one is protected. However, soccer has concussions not reported , because no one cares.

Outside of the box? That looked at least a little reckless to me. He is almost at midfield.

Goalie just got up, I’m trying to figure out what happened his fist or shoulder hit the players chest in the heart?

ETA: ah I see how it was a knee to the chest

Goalkeeper straight up did a flying knee into the opponents face. Awesome in the UFC. Not so much in this situation. Should be criminally prosecuted.

That’s reckless on the goalie. He deserves the nightmares that come from killing that man.

Looks like he was trying to catch the ball, as if he was in the box. He doesn’t get the protections outside of the box like he is afforded in the box. He should be red carded and suspended for his recklessness. If not a rule, the league needs to make it one.

Both players involved were named “Jesus”.

Jesus, what were the odds?

A keeper flying in studs up at basically midfield is not a normal play.

Keepers get to balls outside the box all the time. Even near midfield. I’d try to find a play to pull up but I don’t even know how to search for such a thing since it’s so routine.

I’ll say that the keeper may have been overconfident in his ability to get to that ball cleanly. But it’s not odd to see a keeper run out that far to clear a potentially dangerous ball.

We must not have been watching the same play. “Studs up” is a completely dishonest characterization of the play.
