Their announced target (and hopefully contractual with the State) was 60-80% local workforce. Curious to see what it actually ends up being. IBM had targets like that in Baton Rouge and my recollection is they never came close to hitting that.

I think that is for the permanent jobs not construction. that would be impossible for construction. Between this, the data centers, and plants being built, specifically LNG in SWLA and Port Sulphur, not enough workers in the state for that.

but I can promise there will be plenty that get jobs on this, just like with Sasol, Lotte, the LNG plants etc in the last 15 years

and they cant use H1B on this project like many think

Don’t forget our stupid arse constituents. Already seeing posts on Facebook about “how do we make sure this is the right thing for Acadiana and this doesn’t interfere with our lifestyle/ culture/ environment?

We are destined to be last in everything forever. If it isn’t our grifter politicians it’s our idiot residents.

many people do not care what it is....they hate everything....I call them members of CAFE, citizens against fricking everything

they bitch and bitch but then everytime something is going to be built...they bitch about that too

its the same with those people who say...how come nothing is ever built for us to do around here....and as soon as something is built they never go and complain its too much $$ or its too far etc......then they jump on social media to bitch when it closes due to lack of business.

i literally hate those people

Yes. There are so so so many people that cannot see tomorrow, they only care about how it affects them right this instant. And them alone

Anyone with a working brain can see this could be transformative for the State over the next 50 years. They don't care

He didn't say that at all.

SpaceX

They already appear to be building a talent pool here. The “join us” links to an email to their recruiters. Yes, I stayed up to midnight last night updating my resume and sent it over.

Regarding the coastal erosion.

How do they think that would ever occur without cash from somewhere?
- Do Nothing - it only gets worse
- Rely on government - Slow and can't overcome nature fast enough
- Someone donates money for no reason - would never happen on scale
- Industry comes in and protects their own interests + benefits society - THIS Scenario

What industries could possibly build along our coast?
- Chemical plants
- Oil and Gas
- SPACE PORT by the primary driver of electric cars and obviously forward looking

The criticisms by the woke mind virus infected liberals are mostly as follows: 1) Muh wetlands
2) Muh tax breaks

These idiots don't realize that SpaceX has to reinforce the wetlands to have this infrastructure survive long term, and that for every acre they take out of wetlands they have to add more than an acre elsewhere through mitigation.

Leave it to liberals to fixate on property tax incentives that are <1% of the overall project cost. On net this will be a massive boon to Louisiana's public and private coffers and will result in tax receipts many times higher than tax breaks given.

In short, the liberal critics of this can STTDB and will inevitably be proven completely wrong with enough time as this project's benefits come to fruition.

If I read it right, there is a $20Million lump payment to get split between the Vermilion Parish sheriff's department, school board and police jury. Then a $25 Million annual (and stair-stepped up yearly) payment on top of that. AND $25 million to the foundation of Acadiana for charity work

All flat PILOT program rates not tied to taxes, just flat amounts that you can budget with.

Those are all new dollars to build futuristic industry on swampy coastline while having that coastline shored up

I’ve seen reports that from the 14,000 permanent jobs Space X employs he has less than 100 H1B employees.

SpaceX can't really utilize H1B employees given ITAR restrictions (national security stuff basically).

frick no. I’m happy this is coming.

I’m just wondering what kind of buffer zone there will be. Like with Stennis

Yall get so butthurt when people ask questions and automatically assume we are against it.

And just because they announce something doesn’t mean it always happens like they say it will.

Again…I think this is great for Louisiana.

The runway at Chennault International Airport in Lake Charles, Louisiana, was historically designated and approved by NASA as an alternative emergency landing site for the Space Shuttle program. It stretches an impressive 10,700 feet in length and spans 200 feet in width.

I live directly under the north approach for Chennault. B-52’s from Barksdale almost daily. At least 4-5 times a week. 2-3 each day. C-17s. The doomsday plane. Air Force 1 have all flown 1000’ over my home.

They can handle large aircraft. I assure you. It’s a beautiful sight to see, I can tell you that much.

If what I read is correct I believe that Vermilion parishes annual tax revenue is under 90 million, so the 45 million in year one is a 50%+ bump.

COX in our area (Baton Rouge) is really feeling the heat from competition. Our bill was around 215.00 for gigabit internet and home phone. It was absurd.....We called to see if they had any offers to lower our bill and mentioned we were considering ATT. They offered to cut our bill in half if we gave their mobile service a shot free of charge for a year and we could cancel the mobile service after that if we didnt want it. We did have to pay for the phone but its was only $50.00. Long story short we lock in the same service for half price for five years. Its worth giving them a call and mentioning your desire to check out competition.
