I flySw every two weeks for work and have zero issues…
Then you may have as man air miles as me... SW is great about their RR. Easy to get free flights and companion pass, but thats where it ends as of late.
They treat their best customers like shite and their boarding system is a clusterfrick, everyone is a pre-boarder these days.
Wish I could transfer all my miles somewhere and get decent value for them, if not, I'll just be using here and there. Think I've got enough for close to 50 free round trips at this point.

Wrong. Any hint of a job action is met harshly by the feds as the American Airlines pilot’s union found out years ago. You can bet that letter had a team of lawyers go over it meticulously before giving the green light to publish.
AA union fined $45 million

They just did a story on the Tampa news aboot their airport closures. Some were told yesterday that they would be delayed a week. I am 50 miles from there. We are at 41 with clear skies. WTF?
it doesn't have anything to do with TODAY'S weather.

For the life of me I don't understand how people can't understand this.
You have an airline running its operation razor thin and you don't just add a ripple you add a tsunami(well a mass winter storm)to the operation and it's going to take a while to catch up.

Did you see the CEO’s letter to employees posted earlier regarding proof of sickness for absenteeism? You think only one airline was stricken with a disease that grounds 70% of its flights. Serves SWA right for terminating employees who refused the CoVid shot.

It's not like you can't go to the urgent care dr and say that you have been on the toilet for two days..... not that i have ever done that.... i think they get 4 excused (dr note) occurence a year.

It apparently is due to an archaic scheduling system. Employees have been begging for years to fix it. They are saying that employees calling in to get scheduled are waiting on hold for 3-10 hours.
It sounds like they need an automated, computer, hub system, for scheduling.

I fly almost every week. I've status matched through all the majors at some point except Southwest.
The lack of assigned seating always bothered me. And occasionally I have go to towns that Southwest doesn’t service.

62% cancelled again today is what is being reported in Houston.
That’s AGAIN 12/26.
ETA.
We got caught up in their fake weather issue/sick out during Covid and the mandatory vaccine for pilots. Pilots said frick it. They called in. You’ll NEVER hear them say it. We got a travel voucher for expenses we had from staying in Orlando for 3 extra days until we could get booked. We almost booked a trip for this time frame. We could possibly be dealing with all of this shite all over again. I’d bet there are some that are. All folks like us that were given vouchers were given a deadline of 12/31 to use them. You know a lot of people used those for holiday travel.

You seem like you are trying really hard to take up for SWA for some reason

Google says 3 hours 31 minutes from Dallas to Houston. So probably even quicker than you said.

The FAA regulates the number of hrs a pilot can fly in a day, month and a quarter. When airlines are short staffed, overtime early in the month affects the end of the month and the end of the quarter. They prob have pilots willing to come in, they just don’t have available FAA regulated duty time.
Sounds preventable.

This has never bothered me as long as you are A group.
But this situation is f@cked.
I was stuck in Houston two years ago and they continuously re-booked for a week trying to get flights out.
I had a flight cancel this morning and they can’t re-book until the 31st!
All other airline options are crap and super expensive.
This is a major problem for Southwest and it will be tough to recover from this.

Honest question.
Can she not catch a flight on a different airline vs driving 1200 miles?
I am of the understanding that if she went with another airline especially in this situation, the cost of the tickets would be astronomical?
Edit
Why the downvotes? I havent flown in a long time and was asking a question.
Ehh dont worry about it. Don't care enough.

Never been a fan of Southwest. Flown with them before and I honestly don’t know why some of y’all are evangelicals about it. It has been and always will be a discount airline at its core. Just without the discount prices.
But the reason I don’t like them has nothing to do with their scheduling issues. That’s new information to me. I didn’t realize it was that bad.

Sounds like they’re doing a “hard reset” of their entire system and it will take them all of this week to get back in schedule. Lots more canceled flights coming.
