Age old tale of who is stronger in a union/company negotiation.
Ehhh…you can’t exactly pull in pilot “scabs” to cross the picket line.

When you are considered “select”, you have more power than the usual employee.

Nah,doesn’t take much skill to fly a plane. Hell we can teach truck drivers in 4 weeks, bet we could teach pilots in 8-10. Lawyers would profit!

I don't remember a time in my life when labor had so much leverage.

That's the thing; They can't "negotiate" as it's a violation of federal law.

1) Negotiations between SWA and the pilots union are already supposed to be happening now (or very soon) to renew their labor contract, which is expiring.

As I understand it, they can basically refuse to renew, and when the current contract expires, they would have a lot more leeway in what they can do re: collective action or striking, and what's legal under the "railroad" rules they have to follow.

So if a bunch of pilots got fired now, part of the contract renewal would likely include provisions for dropping the vaccine mandate or allowing broad exemptions, as well as re-hiring pilots that were fired.

2)But as we've seen this week, it's not like Southwest can do without the pilots in the short term, anyway.

3) I don't know that you can be accused of striking for using sick days, especially if they're a "use it or lose it", and you know your enjoyment has a two week expiration date.

That doesn't require anymore "organizing" then what SWA did by setting the vax deadline/ employee expiration date.

Said it the exact mother fricking second this "pandemic" even started. Anyone tells you to get vaccinated, wear a mask, can't come here, etc, just say "frick no, frick you". It's that fricking simple and if a ton of people do it, the sooner people forget about this charade. Don't give in to the mentally ill morons.

You are a fricking idiot. A job as skilled as a pilot has infinite opportunities. They lose pilots they lose everything.

CEO wants to keep his job. He'll lose revenue and workers. It's not like he's riding. If you have covid and still get on the plane you are beyond selfish and should taken off the plane.

They can’t afford to get rid of them. They would have no pilots.

Southwest To Comply With Biden Vaccine Order, Ignore Texas Ban

TUESDAY, OCT 12, 2021 - 06:15 PM
Dallas-based Southwest Airlines will ignore a Texas Executive Order prohibiting any entity from imposing Covid-19 vaccine mandates on employees or customers.

Instead, the beleaguered airline will comply with a yet-to-be issued Biden federal mandate which requires that government employees and contractors get vaccinated, according to CEO Gary Kelly in a Tuesday interview with CNBC.

"I’ve never been in favor of corporations imposing that kind of a mandate. I’m not in favor that. Never have been," Kelly told "Squawk on the Street," adding "But the executive order from President Biden mandates that all federal employees and then all federal contractors, which covers all the major airlines, have to have a [vaccine] mandate ... in place by December the 8th, so we’re working through that."

frick that man. I can get you there. Put me in a simulator for 5 days.

“This is your captain. Thanks for flying “Hot Nuts Airlines.’ We will reach a cruising altitude of about 750 feet as I am afraid of extreme heights and hypoxia. Our speed will be about 700kts as I am also scared to stall. Please join me in prayer for no turbulence and radio towers or buildings or hills. If you look out either window you will probably still be able to see people on the ground pointing. “

You probably be surprised how many of those pilots need those jobs as bad as the airlines need them.

Then work for a union and keep your ideas to yourself.

But then I guess you would turn around and bitch when certain unions protect professions you don’t like.

Or maybe he thinks that sometimes unions are right and other times unions are wrong.

Now hold on wait I thought big government was bad. But this sounds like a government banning private companies from making their own choices
