BATON ROUGE — Southern University proposed a campus-wide dress code at a meeting on Friday.
Southern University Chairman Attorney Tony Clayton said that the idea came to him after noticing other schools around the country, particularly HBCUs, roll out dress codes.
"I walked around campus the other day, I think we need it," Clayton said at the meeting.
Tuskegee University implemented a new dress code that prohibited students from wearing bonnets and durags, along with revealing clothing and bedroom shoes, according to a report by ABC, reviving debates on whether dress codes perpetuate anti-Black stereotypes against students.
Clayton advised that the chancellors discuss the issue ahead of the next meeting on Sept. 18, where it could possibly appear on the agenda.

Dress codes are etched in white supremacy according to MSNBC. This is an Uncle Tom if I have ever seen one!

Should this extend to RBCUs, like LSU?

He is a good man. He has done a lot for that school and his people. Unlike a lot of those activists he actually puts his money where his mouth is. He doesn’t take, he gives.

A great person and ambassador for SU. They’d be wise to follow his lead

Good for him! I hope he can implement some change. It’s crazy how people dress in public

They need a dress code to have at least one set of standards on campus.
It won’t fly because Southern is nearly a bottom tier school. I’d call it bottom except SUNO is worse.

How about ALL college campuses. It’s clear these standards aren’t being taught at home so they need to be reinforced elsewhere.
This younger generation has no clue how to dress in the workforce. I’ve seen student interns wearing crop tops and yoga pants in an office and not think anything of it.

The Bonnet Brigade won't be happy about this.
