With the type of selfish attitude you are displaying I am sure the administration loves to have you as a coach. It’s all about you and your team. Do not worry about how decisions from the admin impact all the other students and

You do not have a realistic expectation of what it takes to run a school or to put plans in motion for a school.

If the first batch wasn’t the main concern, why did the schools close and so on at noon???

Because if they hadn’t and the storms caused injuries to children as a result there would be a line of personal injury attorneys all the way to the MS border ready to file lawsuits.

Can you list all the successful lawsuits against schools where kids were injured due to weather. I am pretty sure that argument doesn’t hold any water at all

This isn’t an argument for or against closure, but the “they will get sued” line doesn’t make sense

I’m not a personal injury attorney so no I cannot.

Per an article in another thread however:
“The Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse reports show the gross product lost to excessive tort litigation in Louisiana is about $5.17 billion each year, with $3.54 billion in direct costs“

I also would question what their insurance would cover from a risk perspective in the event that other areas closed down and they didn’t and injuries resulted.

They don’t want the liability of kids being harmed by bad weather on their watch. Pretty simple.

whatever old man.

What if the 9 people on the team all want to play the game, or have practice? We are all being selfish? How about we decide if we want to be scared of the weather or not? No one is forcing anyoen to go to the game or practice if they don't want to.
And as the coach, if the game/practice was still on with bad weather, i'd ask all of the parents if they want to continue with it or not, b/c you know, i'm such a selfish inconsiderate arse.

I didn't say i did.
Convince me why it's smart to make these decisions 24 hours in advance instead of waiting until the weather picture is a bit clearer. You've yet to do that, and are basically just calling me an idiot instead of explaining why it's idiotic.

Here's what our school said yesterday afternoon.
School will go on, extended day will be cancelled so all students must be picked up when school ends. All evening practices/games/school functions are cancelled.

Explain to me what would have been so difficult to say at the same time yesterday, "due to the possibility of inclement weather tomorrow afternoon, we may need to cancel extended day and afternoon activities at the school. We will be monitoring the weather and will make a definite decision on extended day and afterschool activities by 11am. Please have arrangements ready if cancellation of extended day is necessary."

and it doesn't matter what decision an administration makes, tons of people are going to bitch about it.

Mesoscale Discussion 0020
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0338 PM CST Mon Jan 08 2024

Areas affected...Southeast LA

Concerning...Severe potential...Watch possible

Valid 082138Z - 082345Z

Probability of Watch Issuance...40 percent

SUMMARY...Severe storms will eventually spread into southeast
Louisiana, but the shorter-term risk is uncertain.

DISCUSSION...Latest surface analysis (as verified by visible
imagery) shows the surface warm front extending from Jefferson Davis
Parish southeastward and off the coast of southeast LA. The
boundary is lifting northward, and moist/unstable surface conditions
should move into southeast LA in the next few hours. However,
radar/satellite imagery suggest very little robust convection to the
south of the warm front, and recent HRRR solutions also lend doubt
regarding thunderstorm coverage in the next few hours.

Nevertheless with very strong shear profiles in place, and
increasing low-level moisture and instability, this area will be
closely monitored for increasing thunderstorms south of the warm
front. If this trend develops, a tornado watch will be considered.
Otherwise, it might be a few hours from now as the main cold front
approaches from the west.

1) successful lawsuits and lawsuits are two different things. School districts - taxpayer dollars - dobt want to have to defend against them

2) maybe there have been no successful lawsuits because the schools are proactive in sending kids home.

I’m generally an understanding person, but I really wouldn’t mind you putting your truck in a ditch on the way to this important Biddy practice. Humble yourself Dbag.

During severe weather, a lot of kids are safer in their school than in their single mom's trailer.
