I, as well as a few other college friends, rented houses in Southdowns. I guess you could say they only rent to seniors and grad students, but they do so knowing that they aren't going to be rowdy or have problems like upkeep and paying bills. Hell, my landlord moved to Colorado for a year while I was living there.

I have a rental on Acadian, and try hard to only rent to grad students and such. Younger college kids wreck the places and singles usually have animals (which I allow with a fee)
Trying to sell the house though. It makes $1700 a month (850/ side duplex) but it's hard to sell in the market right now. Selling for 180, just reject an offer for 162.
Seems like good investment opportunity, I'm just tired of having a place in BR living in Kenna.

Maybe these people enjoy the job they have but unfortunately does not pay well so the government steps in and helps out.
Wanna know how I know that you read talking points on lib websites?

Zachary made the section 8 mistake and now its quickly becoming Baker North. Just ask our Police Chief.

Oh and it isnt the Government paying for Section 8, its the home owners and tax payers who live in these area's. The least they could do is take care of their Property and keep their thug friends from hanging out there.

The idea of section 8 and the reality of section 8 are two totally different things. Much like most gov assist programs.

I grew up there and have noticed changes on recent trips back.

So southdowns HOA doesn't have a blighted property clause/policy. If they do move in and then the property appearance begins to fall, can they then take action against the property owner?

Way to describe Sherwood and Belaire to a T
quote:
First comes the section 8. Then comes the loud parties and the property falling into disrepair. Next, the home values in the neighborhood start to fall due to the shitty rental property and general shady behavior starts occurring at night (casing peoples houses, stalking women walking their dogs at night, stealing items from unlocked cars, ect). Then, the crime ramps up with break-ins while people are at work, people breaking into locked cars, copper thefts from AC units, ect. Bars start to go up on peoples' windows and property values go into freefall. The prices fall low enough that slumlords buy up properties to convert into more section 8 housing. Then, the real fun starts: violent home invasions, muggings, murders, assaults, rape, and arson. At this point, the last of those in the neighborhood that can afford to leave, do so, and the neighborhood is left to the devices of the parasites that destroyed the host. A beautiful neighborhood has just been converted into a slum, and in as little as 5 years time.

Section 8 lowers property values, it's a fact

If the people having their home and property values destroyed by section 8 housing would start raising holy hell with their congressmen, this program might go away.
Plus, county and municipal governments should lobby to kill this. Any tax district based on property taxation is literally having the federal government sabotage their revenue streams.

The naïveté I see on this board kinda scares me for the future of this country.

Is this guy trying to ruin Southdowns?

If he were to actually get section 8 tenants they would destroy his property with quickness. He's just stomping his feet and trying to piss off his neighbors because he can't get his way. It's shameful IMO.

This isn't about people being "good" or "bad". It's about the messed up incentives that section 8 creates. The government removes the motivation for both the renters and landlords to GAF about the property and the neighborhood.
This really isn't hard to understand.

My sister rented a section 8 house on Mimosa back in the early 90's. She made improvements to the house.

The law apparently says you can have two people rent that are unrelated but no more. That isn't anywhere close to unreasonable. Also, no one will give a shite if it's two girls and a friend living there. It's when you've got 3 students and their girlfriends having college parties in family neighborhoods. I know the neighborhood that started his crusade....it's not a college kid type of place.
Myers is either lazy or an a-hole or both.

And I'd venture to guess she is in the overwhelming minority of Section 8 renters that do this. If they all acted this way or just maintained the property there wouldn't be any problems.
