There's not many places in America where you can go for a week, keep all generations fully engaged and entertained while only partaking in 20-30% of the overall offerings without the need for repeating experiences.

All while they take care of accommodations and transportation.

Now the ratio of “Disney adults” and influencers to people with kids is over the top and Disney has focused less on customer experience and more on efficiency and profit. Couple that with their delving into politics and it’s just not the same experience as it used to be.

I dunno, it was pretty magical with my two kids earlier this year. I prefer the cruises just so you aren't constantly running for ride to ride, but besides now being the one paying for it, I think my kids got the same magic I got when I was a kid.

i'm by no means one of those Disney adults, but the times that we have gone, to Disneyland and Disney Tokyo, it was fun... hella overpriced, but the parks are always clean, and i can appreciate the attention to detail in the aesthetics of the buildings and how they recreate places and eras of time...

Meh.

My oldest has asked about disney one time. We were already planning a trip to a lake house on cape cod, so I asked him if he’d rather go to a lake, ride on boats and catch a couple of cape league and sox games. He said yes and now he asks when we’re going back there every 3 months or so.

Hasnt brought up disney since.

i’m honestly curious at why, for example, you would go to Epcot to see a fake London when for not all that much more you can go see the real thing.
because for my family it’s actually cheaper to go to Disney World than to travel overseas

I mean, there are ways to travel overseas cheaply but in many ways it’s just not feasible.

Plus you mention one country out of a dozen at Epcot - we can’t go to a dozen countries for the price of Disney World.

My kids have almost outgrown Disney and Universal is not that much cheaper - if it’s cheaper at all. We just went in October for 3 days, and it’s pretty close to Disney prices.

I used to have a coworker in his mid 40’s that was obsessed with Disney. He was married to another obsessive Disney person and they had no kids but went to Disney 2-3 times a year and had a climate storage unit solely for their Disney merchandise they’ve bought through the years.

Neither made a ton of money but spent most of their disposable income on trips to Disney… wild to me but to each his own I guess.

I am not a big Disney guy but my wife took our kid and some nieces last year while we were visiting my dad who lives on the west coast of Florida. Just a couple hour drive and I stayed back and played golf that day. They had a good time and I’m fine with that

I get it, Disney is woke, yada, yada. It does have to be soul hardening to be cynical about every single thing in the world, though.

The family always enjoyed Dollywood more than Disney, particularly considering all the things to do outside of the theme park. Disney parks will not get another dime from us, way overpriced.

I couldn't imagine skipping out on something your kid specifically asked you for just because it wasn't exactly what you wanted. It'd be one thing if you were saying it was because you just couldn't afford it, but that's obviously not the case here.

I’m not sure why Johnny brought up that point - there is a transgender person working at the Cane’s down the street from me - it’s not just a Disney thing.

I know a dude that stayed in one of the most expensive suites in Disney.....by himself. He went alone. He drives around in a little blue car and has a My Little Pony sticker on his bumper. Weird SOB.

for the life of me I can’t understand spending thousands to go to central Florida or Anaheim to see a park designed for children.

I brought this up on here when I chaperoned a school trip to Disney. Adults everywhere in there, going crazy over the mouse. It’s not my cup of tea. I’m sure I’m into things that get that childhood nostalgia going.

It just seems super pricey, and a crowded and commercialized experience that doesn’t scream “fun”.

Not really an informed decision though, is it? You steered the hell out of him and keep leading him away from choosing Disney, so he doesn’t know what it’s like.

Same. My wife and I have done it without kids. You can move a whole lot faster and cover a lot more territory. It was fun.

We're not into dressing up or buying a bunch of merch, so we were able to do it relatively cheaply. The key word being relative.

This thread made me think... my kids are between 19 and 23. One of them will have kids in the not so distant future and my arse will be back at disney paying the fricking mouse.

The OTers saying they take their kids (or would take their kids) to Europe over Disney or the beach make laugh. Zero chance your shithead kid appreciates walking around the Louvre or the Tower of London.

you do realize that Disney is not the only place you will see that, don’t you?

You can see that at a baseball game, on the lake, or even your local grocery store.
