Girls lift their shirts.
And their boobs feel like bags of sand.

Music, booze and titties. What's not to like?

Marching bands sound awful. Almost no one goes to hear them.
For the most part this is true but I appreciate when these kids are playing. Last night the band from Sophie B Wright was putting on a show when the parade stopped by us for 10 minutes. Everyone around us was having a blast and my area of St. Charles was both white AND black folks.......... GASP!!!! I know that's hard to believe for some of you simple minded fricks.

Sorry you know nothing about Mardi gras. You probably think it's about guys in wife beater shirts with New Iberia haircuts hanging out on canal or bourbon street. LOL

But the actual parades? It's just a bunch of people riding on floats and throwing shite that would be considered Party City junk any other time of the year.
You shut your whore mouth.

I don't dislike MG. I just thinks it's overrated. And king cake is gross. But, to each their own.

Of course everyone has different opinions on what they like to do, I just feel sorry for those that have never experienced it other than being in mobs of people on Canal Street or by hanging on Bourbon all day with the idiots.
And then there are the nimrods who pack up the family and try to drive in and get to a parade like endymion or bacchus an hour before it starts. Of course you are going to be miserable in that situation, but its because you didn't plan properly.

Certain aspects are fine: the music, food, atmosphere, etc. A lot of parades can be boiled down to standing in the cold (most years) for cheap plastic beads next to idiots who act like they are having their first beer. As always, trash ruins everything they touch.

There was probably a 3 year or so window when I was in college where I really liked Mardi Gras, and then I just completely lost interest in it.

The parades are overrated but the whole atmosphere is awesome. Carnival season is a special time.

I used to really enjoy Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Now that I am older 42 I and remain in Lafayette for Mardi Gras it has become a burden more than a happy time. Here is some of the problems
- people blocking off public land. People fighting because he roped off a section at 5am and now thinks he owns said land.
-parking , people roping off the city owned easement, will fight you for parking on the 3 foot of their land that the city owns.
- people not watching their kids, the kids that act like crack addicts for a spear or stuffed animal
- the grown up that will run over a 6 year old girl for a bead.
If this didn't happen and everyone drank, ate, and were civilized, Mardi Gras would be awesome.

My wife summed it up perfect, "I never thought I was a parade person, but now that they are close it is different."
I can't see myself ever posting up all day on the neutral ground.

If you don't know why people like to party I don't know what to tell you.

Come back and give it a try on this first weekend of mardi gras.
Park about 5 or so blocks from St. Charles between Louisana Ave. and Napolean. Milan street is a perfect area.
Mostly locals and mostly families. I saw lots of hot arse and almost no trash at all.
There is a restaurant on that corner with clean portolets that they charge for or go down a few blocks to sacred heart.
